Finally,The picture is becoming clearer

Marian Ali, Special Adviser to the President Goodluck Jonathan on Intergovernmental Affairs, is to stand surety for Christian Taylor, the oil subsidy fraud suspect whose nationality is in dispute, and described by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as “not stable”.

Mrs. Ali, the wife of Ahmadu Ali (a former chairman of the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, under whose watch most of the subsidy scam was perpetrated) indicated in court today that she would stand surety for Mr. Taylor. Mr. Taylor, had alongside Mamman Ali (Marian’s son) pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge of obtaining N4.4billion from the federal government under false pretence, last Thursday.

He told the judge that he is a citizen of Sierra Leone. Adeniyi Onigbanjo, the judge, had among other bail conditions stipulated that one of their two sureties must be a blood relative of the applicant with landed property within Lagos State valued at N100million. Mr. Taylor’s counsel pleaded with the judge that his client, being a foreigner, would have difficulties meeting the condition; the judge responded that he file a formal application to that effect.

At the resumed sitting on Monday, Toyin Pinheiro, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and one of the counsels to Mr. Taylor filed an application to the verification of his bail conditions. However, Rotimi Jacobs, counsel to the EFCC, said that Mr. Taylor’s assertion that he is a foreigner is worrisome. “The defendant in his sworn deposition said that he is from Edo State. For him to now turn back and say he is Sierra Leonean,” said Mr. Jacobs.

“The important thing is for him to attend the trial and if he is not stable at this level, I wonder if he will be stable when released totally,” he added. Mr. Onigbanjo had fixed today for hearing of the defendant’s application for verification of bail conditions.

He was in an event 2 weeks ago, and was spotted laughing with Otedola. Tells you how dead-brain the president is.
Shame we have to bear with this colossal failure till 2019.

So what's wrong if she stands for a thief?

Why is it that people do and undo whatever that pleases them in Nigeria? This is very unbecoming. The president and our legislators plus the judiciary are all clueless. “The trouble with not having a goal is that you can spend your life running up and down the field and never score.” pdp just d use naija as their chess board. #GODISWATCHINGTHEM.

Okay, for the last time cos I don't enjoy giving free political class.

Her husband is a former PDP national chairman, he was also incharge of overseeing PPPRA(those that supposed to be verifying the subsidy claims). . .she is still serving the president as special adviser and want to stand as a surety to a subsidy thief. Do you still need more dots to paint the picture am looking at?

i have never been a fan of gej, and i will never be. however on this, i believe there is nothing wrong with the adviser's decision. the accused is not guilty until the court proves him guilty, and if the adviser believes that the accused has not stolen any money, he should stand by his friend (accused)
however, one more thing that the adviser has to do is to resign his position though - so as to clear this govt from any complicity in the trials of the accused!

What is wrong for her to stand surety for her son? Does that make her a culprit? They are suspects and not condemned criminals until the court discharges other wise there is nothig wrong in her actions. Why bringing GEJ into the matter now??was he the one who sent her. Abegii

And what if? Has she violated any provision of the constitution by so doing? In ur usual haste to condemn, you failed to remember the accused stands innocent until convincted. In as much as we want all of them to pay for their sins, we must respect their right to bail by whoever pleases and meets the bail conditions.

It doesn't augur well for GEJ.

Tis akin to Obama's aide standing surety for a fraud suspect. The furore alone from the opposition and media would be unfettered.

Please reflect on those remarks, quite contradictory and well........it would not be polite to say!

By doing this without resigning the adviser has brought his Principal into disrepute so to say there is nothing wrong completely stumps me.
There would be nothing wrong if he resigned first.
He/she is a political appointee of the President standing surety for an accused in a criminal prosecution for crimes committed against the Government .

It is just as bad or as good(for the defendant) as if the President himself stood surety !

I think Doyin Okupe has his first job lined up for him already.

As things are he has not resigned and is not threatening to do so anytime soon. It stinks

Mrs Ali is an adult and Nigerian like you and i whose child and an associate is standing trial.. She's at liberty to stand as surety for her son and friend just as a true mother will do for her son.. Is that worth a news or criticism? What points are you guys making? Are you from this planet? You pigs!. Why call PDP... Is Wale Tinubu a relative of Ahmed Tinubu your pay master not in this subsidy scam? Abi Tinubu no get shares for Oando?
To the unbiased Nigerians viewing or commenting on this thread, let's see this fuel subsidy imbroglio beyond partisanship as these low brains are trying to mislead this forum to believe but rather a national course for the soul of our dear country..
