Seun: Your really think catching up with Facebook is that simple? Companies do fail, especially when they invest in a impossible dreams.Lol, it will be an illusion if you try to chase Facebook because of the mass appeal it offers. 222Martins: If Nairaland wants to catch up, Seun just needs to do three things. Make Nairaland better, incorporate Nairaland and bring in investors. It's as simple as that. But you can definitely give it a run for the money here in Nigeria because Nairaland has more user engagement and interaction than Facebook. You have shown great commitment to Nairaland by continuously tweaking and innovating at every given opportunity but you can definitely do more. |

Nobody thought FB could take over Hi5, Nigerians have amazing ideas but for some reason it’s always poorly executed (no disrespect Seun). The idea of this forum is similar to Twitter and with proper strategy the owner can definitely cash big-time. There is always a void in FB and Twitter that Nairaland can fill. I spend more time on here than on FB because I can relate to the posts and I can actually gain knowledge (sometimes) on what’s happening in Nigeria. This website needs to keep evolving, we need to be able to do more than just post stories. Maybe we can already I am new to this forum so not sure. This site is addictive for sure. People risk getting fired to come to this website so there is something to it. Seun, if you don’t evolve and continue to meet the need of your niche market someone will visit this website and find ways to do it better and snag all your “customers” You may want to open a tread on “suggestions on how to improve” I am rooting for you though – make us proud 1 Like |

Seun: Your really think catching up with Facebook is that simple? Companies do fail, especially when they invest in impossible dreams. Seun, Nothing is impossible! Before facebook, there were others. if Mark had just sat there, telling himself that beating others was impossible, he wouldn't have founded facebook. You are a good programmer just like Mark; you have a good followership, maybe not as much as facebook, but good enough. If you need funds, you can get investors. Pls don't be stuck with that Nigerian mentality of preferring to go it it all alone so that it can be referred to as "My own". When you look at problems with the intention of going at them alone, then most will surely appear impossible. just my 2 cents. Remember Einstein's words, the way we look at the problem is the problem. 1 Like |

Comments so far indicates NL users want more from Seun. Its not necessarily comparing Seun and Mark. It's about Seun taking insight from Mark. It's standing standing on the shoulders of gaint - to see further He can seek help through a thread here where ideas can be generated or have inner circle to voyage on the way forward. NL has willing investors and brains from which ideas can be generated @ Seun, NL yearn for more. QED |

There is nothing special about nairaland and seun isn't doing anything special as far as forums are. The original format and layout of nl was borrowed from other websites. If you use google chrome or mozilla you can actually enable java script and see, modify and copy the original scripts. That's what ur boy wonder has been doing all this while. Why can't I have an auto refresh for a thread I posted on? Because these buttpirates can't code sh1tm . And to compare seun to Zuckerberg is like comparing a chimp to einstein. Zuckerberg wrote a complex code which is cyberspace equivalent to the" six degrees of separation" theory. And also seun as a website "owner" is still stuck in the dot com bubble of the 90's. Facebook makes a lot of legitimate money from demographic and location target audiences. The rest is from selling ur bio to the NSA. No advertiser will pay money to advertise products in a site where the demograh is unknown giving the annonymous nature of members. These days even bloggers can make it big. If seun can't figure how to aggressively promote his site then he doesn't knw what it takes to manage. I have a couple of ideas but I won't tell him shwt. |

I think the answer is equal to the difference between a 6 billion market and a 150 million market (aside the difference in products and services both are offering). |

Apart from Reddit and 9gag almost all other forums struggle to keep up. For example 4chan handles at least 10million guests daily and close to 10,000 threads and over a million posts daily. You will expect the "owner" to be a billion, right? Hell no! Nobody (at least big and medium scale coporations) wants anything to do with the site because Moot (Christopher Poole) does not endorse internet censorShip. At first glance the image board will seem like an anarchist's vision of hell but that's what 4chan's appeal. On another perspective, wikipedia is a well known net brand with high volume visits but the managers have refused to allow paid ads on ethical grounds. M00t refused donations but can't seem to generate enuff money from ads to maintain the website. What I expect from seun is to take Nairaland to the road like having nairaland logo on red carpet events, creating an official news reel and trending blog for each section and creating apps for smart phones, facebook and twitter links. There is more but am not free |

Re: Why Is Seun Not As Rich As Mark Zuckerberg? by ODB1: 6:16pm On Aug 09, 2013 |
Seun maybe a good programmer but scripting skills alone is not what you need to manage a website. Facebook and twitter are the biggest on line sites in Nigeria. Seun needs to figure out how to integrate his members associating their facebook or twitter account with his site. It will pay up big time for him and the site as it will represent a true picture of who nairalanders are. Here are a few suggestions; New and existing members can sign up and login with their existing facebook or twitter accounts Members can view customized sections on their wall vie automatic posts Thread posting from facebook is made possible . You will be suprised how it will rid the site from trolls and bigots In return nairaland will be introduced freely to new members from user facebook and twitter circles There is more...but am not free |

O.D.B.:ODB abi wetin be your name: you are simply an eunuch. Take your lame ideas and shove it in your "comboard"... Seun is doing the little he can do and we appreciate his efforts.let Zuckerberg come and set up their shop in Nigeria where bad roads, epileptic power,pull-him-down syndrome, multiple taxation, cult infested streets, incessant kidnappings, ritual killings, and insecurity is rife and let's see.The heat alone will shrivel his brain. The young man has not complained to anyone because he is content with what he has and understands the common sense in eatind an elephant one bite at a time.Mister Take your brilliant ideas start and replicate Seuns achievements, then outdo him. We are waiting for you Eunuch.THE ANONYMOUS NATURE OF NAIRALAND IS WHAT APPEALS TO NIGERIANS...its purpose revolves around NAIJA. Facebook is designed to be a social networking site wher you have power over whom you invite into your circle of friends. Nairaland is a discussion forum designed to give users the safety of anonymity and the choice to reveal their identity. If we start revealing our identities via our pictures the NAIJA factor will make nairaland lose its appeal.e.g It would unmask Yuzedo the crazy and dumbwitted nairalander who is really smart and well educated in real life. |

ODB- you see as the tin dey pepper for body.with a very arrogant tone you decided to ridicule an honest man's effort in Seun making use of the knowledge that he has to make Nigerians happy instead of stealing money from banks or duping foriegners,by calling it "buttpiratted". The tin dey sweet you that time as u dey run your tap mouth saying that there's nothing special about the years of persistence and dedication of somebody else. I repeat again with greater emphasis this time. "YOU ARE AN EUNUCH"...uve seen it done by others, you can describe how ito should be done to others; just that you are impotent to do it yourself. |

As for Seun, I am not against your aspirations to grow as it is in tandem with the natural order of things - to be fruitful and multiply. My advise to you is that whatever you do, do it when you sense within you that it. The time is right and not because people are clamouring for it. No one else is wearing your shoes right now.The people that shout "Hossanah to the highest" today will shout "Cruxify him" tomorrow. Toyin Subair of HiTv is a case in point. Best of luck |

Many things. I can write a book on it. Mark thinks BIG!! The more people you help, the richer you become. #Principle Seun is growing fast though. if he continues on this pace, he will be able to reach Mark with the right mindset. |

I stated the reason why seun does not deserve to be on par with mark and facebook I stated the reason why nairaland cannot grow beyound a nigerian site due to poor marketing and dependence only to page adsm I also stated that seun is just very lucky to have a trendy site and it has nothin to do with the sites design or marketing. NL got going from word of mouth and google nigeria search which makes nairaland appear on the first page when searching national issues I also stated that if seun doesn't continue to expand and improve the outreach of tje site it will naturally die. Any one invovlerd wit tech knows that u can't afford to remain stagnant. This is wat ur arrested developmental cranium can never comprehend. U don't want him to grow beyound this because it will prove that a young black man can make it on his own with hard work and talent. If seun blows it will show what a waste of sp@rm u r. It will prove all ur sissy excuse for not making it out on ur own without daddy and mummy's help is borne out laziness and incompetence on your own part. In short u r lazy |
Re: Why Is Seun Not As Rich As Mark Zuckerberg? by otipoju(m): 9:43pm On Aug 10, 2013 |
ODB, honestly you are merely ranting and I am grossly dissapointed that you can dismiss a young man's eight years of hard work with a wave of the hand " nothing special and mere luck" and you even went ahead to call him a "buttpirate". Your arrogance takes merit away from whatever you want to say. You have also brought the issue of race into this which I feel is irrelevant. As we have dumb whites and brilliant blacks and vice versa. Let me make clear to you that ability wise, not every football player can be a Lionel Messi even though they undergo the same training everyday. In terms of purpose, the fact that Silverbird fashioned to entertain, is not as big as CNN News does not mean it is not excelling in its area of concentration. The name "Nairaland" alraedy indicates Seun's target market- the over 100 million "Nigerians" whose vast majority who have horrible or no internet access at all. All these will improve in years to come. Is Seun growing? Yes! Is he learning? Yes. Does he have long term and short term objectives for his site? Yes.Is he stretching himself yes! Wether he fails or succed in his quest will I appreciate his efforts? Yes! just as I would that of the Gala seller who ekes out a living on the streets in this jungle called Nigeria. As for the rest of your comments,I choose to ignore, who knows u might just be my boss in the office or the one that serves me tea in the morning but prove to me that you are not a mere eunuch by eclipsing his efforts since you say he aint doing nada. And if you are indeed destined for greatness you must learn to accept criticism as gracefully as Seun is doing and stop throwing tantrums when you opinion is questioned. I don't have any personal beef with you, it is your approach that I am seriously against. |
