druid06: People get the misconception about Obama being black. He is actually not black but a mixed race. Some African Americans in the united states are not supporting him because of this. A popular black actor Morgan freeman recently made a statement claiming that Obama is not the first black president because he is mixed race. He mentioned that the first black president is yet to come. Tracing Obama back to his roots, the president is not really African American because his American mother is white (and, by extension, his ancestors were not enslaved). Second, that "mixed-race" and "black" are mutually exclusive
ways of being. Also, he was never truly raised as another '' black kind on the block '', he was raised in an all white neighborhood. Do you still believe he is black? People what do you think?.

I tire my brother! So because his forefathers weren't shipped to america via slave trade makes him less an african american? I dunno why these african americans have this inferiority complex spirit in them.if they are dreaming of a slave descendant to be an american president then they must be in fools' paradise!

I'm not trying to be contracdictory. I am just trying to be an realist. When someone is half white and half black, that doesn't make them a black person or a white person, that person is mixed and so when people say Obama is black, does he truly think and behave like a black person? Take for example, an actress named Thandie Newton. She was in mission impossible 2 I think. Her father is a white Englishman and her mother from Zimbabwe. Thandie has a very dark skin. Would you say she's white, black or mixed?

A study from Ancestry.com has determined that President Obama is related to John Punch, the first black African enslaved for life in America--which would make Punch the 11th great-grandfather of Obama.
The connection is made through Obama's mother, Stanley Ann Dunhan. The website's records say she had ancestors who were white landowners in Colonial Virginia who descended from an African man, Punch.
According to the site's press release, Punch tried to escape indentured servitude in colonial Virginia in 1640 and was punished by becoming enslaved for life. The records show that Punch had children with a white woman, and her status as free was passed on to her offspring. Punch's descendents became successful landowners in the slave-owning state of Virginia.

This would mean that the first documented slave and the first African American president have a shared lineage, claim researchers. Said Ancestry.com's genealogist Joseph Shumway, "John Punch was more than likely the genesis of legalized slavery in America. But after centuries of suffering, the Civil War, and decades of civil rights efforts, his 11th great-grandson became the leader of the free world and the ultimate realization of the American Dream."
Genealogists seem to be fascinated with the current president's family tree: The site has also traced an Irish branch of Obama's family. And researchers at the New England Historic Genealogical Society claim he is the distant cousin of movie star Brad Pitt and six past presidents, including George W. Bush.
