KEEPING TIME
The c.o.c.k crows high into the morning sky
Honks of early Oshodi danfo buses train my sleep
As i tear my face away from the clock
And i recite solemly to myself
You still got plenty of time
It takes you just a minute to get dressed
And seconds to lace your shoe.


I clutch more tighter to my pillow
Turning left right till i willowed
Gently savouring the bliss of my dreams
No pleasure comes this close
Would it hurt the world i ask
If I take extra five minutes to rest?


My mama use to tell me words
Make hay while the sun shines
And time waits for no man she had say
But I beg to disagree dear mama
The clock is just a creation of a drunk frenchman
And I blame that device for my life ills

Lost a big contract
Carried over Old man's course
Got demoted and embarrased
Just cos I couldnt keep time
That was destined i would yell
Aint my fault i arrived late for the party
Or i missed the bus cos i was late
I didnt know the clock from Adam
And would leave clocks to time keepers
As I go on grudingly living my life
Knowing that keeping time is my nemesis!
