BENIN CITY - Four major federal establishments operating in Edo State were yesterday shut down by the Edo State government for failure to pay their tax.

The closure followed an earlier notice issued by the Edo State Board of Internal Revenue, urging them to comply with the tax payment.

Some of the establishments sealed up for failure to meet with the tax payment included the corporate head office and transmission station of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) located at TV Road and Aduwawa respectively.

Also sealed up were the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) on Benin-Agbor Road, Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), Benoni Road, GRA, Benin City as well as the Nigeria

Postal Service (NIPOST) located at Airport Road and Akpakpava Road respectively. Activities in the affected establishments were grounded as workers were barred from entry following a notice of restraining order placed at the entrance.

Speaking with newsmen, the Director of Tax Intelligence and Enforcement, Board of Internal Revenue, Mr. Victor Okube who led the enforcement team, stated that the establishments were shut down following their indebtedness arising from the tax audit and failure to comply.
