I don't know about y'all but i'm not proud of my nation's performance.
Participation is the least expected. To be honest what are we good at?
Our athletes joy must be mostly muted. Believe me it's like graduating from the university with a pass. Unless you have a plan you cannot truly be proud of yourself.
There's joy in participating but there must be even more elation in winning.
Maybe next time but let's plan towards it rather than hope for a miracle.

chaircover: did anyone just hear that?? 16 years ago Team GB only won one gold medal shocked shocked

And they started working hard and planning and are going home with 60 medals. Instead of Nigeria to start training for Rio this week, we'll wait till 2 months to the Olympics and expect miracles. China, France, GB, America have already picked the next olympiads for Table Tennis and they're only 12 and 13. South Africa said it takes a nation to win a medal. Jamaica will go and train more Usain Bolts and Yohan Blakes. And you bet Brazil will not rest until they win a Gold in Football in Rio. Let's see if Nigeria will start asking athletes to train and sponsor their training including competition participation this month.

But nooooo

of course, we can!
money is not the problem in nigeria, management is!
map out a huge budget - get james cameron or peter boyle to give us an outstanding opening/closing ceremony, build multipurpose stadiums all over the country and ensure tight security! of course, nigeria can do this....
heard one of the commentators commenting this morning that the stadium used for most of the events was a newly constructed one, for we to host one that means a new stadium is calling because I don't think abuja's 60 thousand capacity stadium will do the work.

we don't even have the state of the art facilities to train these athletes - sports is also no longer the quick getaway to success in nigeria anymore. the nigerian youths now prefer showbiz(nollywood and hip hop music) than training for 100m sprints!

The Stadium for the Sydney Olympics held 110,000 (reduced to 95k after the games)

build another stadium---the stadium @ stratford is less than £500m to construct!
the money those greedy politicians made from oil subsidy saga is 10 times more----if south africa can host a one month long world cup, nigeria can do this easily but the management has to be top drawer!

Mo Farah trained in the US, Chambers went to Jamaica and train, Nigeria should be able to fund all these things without buying expensive facilities

Countries like Jamaica, Guyana etc.
don't have state of the art facilities,
but they they still won medals.

I concur with the other points,
it's basically about interest, and most
Nigerians are really not interested in sport,
except arguably, football.

Parents don't encourage their wards as well,
it's all about being a Doctor, Lawyer etc..;
and anyone into sport is labelled; a riff raff.
