I don’t know how many of you in the UK read the Daily Mail. I don’t, but my attention was brought to an article on Page 19 of today’s Daily Mail (Sat 8th April, 2006).

The Column “Platell’s People” has an article on Damilola Taylor – “Sorry, Mr Taylor, but Britain’s not THAT bad”.

Anyway, she goes on to say “In Nigeria, wife-beating is legal, child labour widespread, health care nonexistent and the criminal justice system is deeply corrupt”

Is wife-beating legal in Nigeria? If it is not then an apology from Ms Amanda Platell will be in order.

It's not legal but it's accepted as a "norm." Aren't there wife-beaters in US and in the UK?

actually it is illegal, if the incident is reported as assault and battery then the husband could be arrested.

yes  @JosBoy4Lif u are right, most times the police end up squashing the case if adequately 'settled' but then am yet to see any police force  in the world that can claim to be without it's own issues of corruption

What do we say of husband beaters? I'm sure there are women out there who beat their husband.

Why woul you think of something like that in the first place?

The Police are not fools, they know very well.
No family will support their "Wife/Daughter" going to police and carrying family matter out of the house.
A woman that goes to police (without her family) has lost the case.
No one will listen to her story again.

If only women were not too foolish and too passive to enforce their rights, things will be better.
Until then, woman abuse will continue. You will be mistreated and your daughters in future generations too.
All the laws in the world wil not help a woman who thinks her husband has the right to beat her.
That's why spousal abuse is as common in countries like the US that have more specific laws against this.
If you don't have a sense of dignity, you'll be beaten like the worthless sack that you are in your mind.

There's no country in the world where some unthinking men dont beat their wives. It happens a lot in the UK and the wives dont usually leave the men. They only leave the men when they realise the guy doesn't even want them again. It's pathetic but it's only stupid and silly women who would find themselves in such situations in the first place.
