afam4eva: I'm indiferent about Nigeria. I've not benefited anything from the country. Ps nobody should quote JF Kennedy bnecause that his speech does not apply to Nigeria. It only applies to countries where things work.. Most people are actually like you. If things improve, fine. If not, who cares. It is a very sad state of affairs because it prevents highly talented people from serving Naija to the best of their abilities. "What difference will my efforts make anyway?" kind of thing. |

I'm in love with the "idea of Nigeria" - i.e. somewhere i can call home, brotherhood, unity, patriotism, merit-based performance, sense of security and justice, priority over all other foreigners, access to fundamental human rights and medical care, love in the hearts of my neighbours for me and my family, somewhere i can show my children good morals and values, a place where our culture, music, dress and food is exalted above anything foreign, somewhere where i would be proud to wear the army uniform and die for my people during war, knowing that my government will ensure my family is taken care of. A place of hope and honour. Sadly, i cant find any of the above factors in the Nigeria of today. I grew up as a yoruba "Lagos Boy" - "Tribe" was a thing that only old backward men spoke about as all my best friends were igbo, hausa, south-south from everywhere. My fiance of many years was ibo. Today i read the posts on Nairaland and see so much venom from Nigerian kids against their brothers who live across the River Niger, so much hate, anger, fighting an enemy they can not see. meanwhile nobody has taken time to read and understand that the British philosophy of "divide and rule" was perfected by the Nigerian military via creation of States to ensure Nigerians could never unite as one to unseat them. This travesty has been further used as a political tool by various political parties to ensure the people can never speak with one voice. They have built the tower of Babel in Nigeria. Those in power enjoy watching young yoruba men hating young ibos and young hausas hating young south-south...why?? because they can play us against each other and retain control of Abuja. If Nairaland (with all the hatred and venom)is a representation of todays intelligent, exposed and educated Nigerian youth...then sadly the country is finished and will cease to exist in this generation. I can not therefore love what does not exist. 2 Likes |

sambos994:Actually it doesn't....you can't help your country when your country does not want you to help it. The enabling envioronment is not there. We need basic social amenities before we start thinking o what we can contribute. Right now people are barely surviving. |

I dont hate my 9ja, woe betide me if i do, were else will i be able to rome around freely and call my papaland. But i believe we need a total reorientation from bottom up, at the end of the day our leader's did'nt come from jupita, they came out of us the "populace", what we need is a wind of change sweeping through all the nuk's and crany's of our land. We all need to know were we fit in in the development of our dear nation, yes 9ja is blessed with talented people cutting accross all work's of life, but we lack guidance. Take for example our graduate's, 80% of them have this orientation of seeking employment after graduation, being mindless of the fact that part of the reason for going to school is to also create employment,we clamoure that our govt is'nt functioning yet we wate everyday for them to put food on our table, what we need right now is to discover our throughself as individual's, to know that work that will make us happy even in an ailing country, and together we can move our nation forward. Am currently a member of a young NGO called THE COUNCELLOR'S TEAM(TCT) which is focused on helping people discover thier through potential's in life and how to maximize it to bless other's and to also better the economy. You all are invited to like our page TCT@facebook, change is here people be a part of it, dont run away. |

Forget the critisms you see on Nairaland, when the chips are down MOST Nigerians are madly in love with Nigeria. It's something other foreigners cannot understand or explain. They see us fight, argue, insult and sometimes kill each other but when another country stands in Nigeria's way, you see Nigerians unite and attack such countries. My cousin based in Nairobi even told me that many Kenyans had walked up to him and said they wish they were Nigerian 2 Likes |

sambos994: The damn government is what I hate!!!Thats our ONLY probles. We have no reason we should be hungry in the midst of over-abundance. Infact, its a conclusion that government doesnt solve problems; government, our government, is the problem. Just a few weeks ago, because of my posts on facebook against corruption and bad government, my family and I were threatened with anonymous calls. GOVERNMENT IS OUR PROBLEM. |
