What about those that go about in a Danfo bus harassing young men going about their daily business on the street trying to make a living. Especially that Ogba Area. They have extended their idiotic act to nearby areas, especially New Oko Oba, Oko Oba, Agege, Abule Egba, Fagba and the likes of others. They even go as far as patrolling streets looking for young boys. I watch how the brutalized a young man of between 23-35yrs of age for holding an ipad. Area "G" police are becoming something else.

google1: Five riot policemen have been arrested for “unethical practices.”

They were arrested along various highways on the orders of the Commissioner of Police in charge of Police Mobile Force, Joseph Mbu, for improper dressing and other unethical practices.

Three of the errant officers were arrested in Enugu State (MOPOL 3); one in Umuahia, Abia State (MOPOL 28); one in Lokoja metropolis, Kogi State (MOPOL 37), while the other one was nabbed along Abuja – Lokoja Road (MOPOL 50).

Our correspondent learnt that the police monitoring unit, in attempt to arrest three other riot police officers in Umuahia, were allegedly fired at by the policemen, who later escaped.

Although no one was wounded in the shoot-out, our correspondent learnt that one of the escapees was later apprehended drinking in the midst of criminals in Ugbehe, in Abia State.

Mbu said the exercise, which commenced on Friday, “is aimed at completely sanitising the PMF and mopping up the shame it has brought upon Nigerians”.

He said, “We want to do away with old men in the PMF. We are working towards demobbing old men who are up to 50, 60 years old in the PMF.

“With this exercise, we will stop our men from embarking on illegal escort duties, and we will no longer tolerate those of them who dress shabbily, like wearing bathroom slippers while on duty.”

He said those arrested were accused of improper dressing.

He said, “For instance, a mobile police officer was arrested along Abuja – Lokoja Road, wearing only his MOPOL trousers. He was even sleeping with his beret, while his rifle was on the floor.

“The PMF has a clear mode of dressing and its members have a way of conducting themselves. They are supposed to be agile to save a situation at all times.

“As the Compol, I decided that the ethics be instilled. The Inspector-General of Police supported the initiative and we set up an ethics, doctrine and monitoring team, and the call order was to arrest any of them found wanting in the dress code of the PMF. Even if they are escorting anybody and there is no authority, we demand that they be arrested. That is what we are doing now, going from state to state, and arresting the erring ones.”

I commend d move by the IG at restoring the NPF to it's lost Glory.
An agile police man instills confidence in the eyes of the people.
All the weak and shabby dressing officers should be shown the way out of the force, so that gallant people will take over. No time
Re: Five Policemen Arrested For Improper Dressing by Spirit96(m): 8:23pm On Aug 20, 2012
HERE IS MY SUGGESTION 2 IGP, THEN U WILL HV GALLANT NPF:
1. LET UR BOYS BE FULLY KITTED
2 LET THEM BE ADEQUATELY EQUIPPED
3. LET THEIR WELFARE BE ENHANCED
4. LET THEM BE TRAINED N RETRAIN
5. LET THEM BE REGIMENTED
6. LET THEM BE WELL ORIENTED.
WITH DIS, THERE'S NO NEED 2 INDULGE IN A HACULLEEN JOB OF ARREST.

IGP shd advise CP Joseph Mbu 2 reduce his high-handedness and thread with caution with his mopol boys. Emphacy 4 now shd b on BH and internal sanitization can come thereafter. Mopol fire at mopol is a major lesson, next time it may at oga.

From the look of things, I suspect u ar one of the 40 laptops defending all wrong decisions of the gomment or perharps u ar eyeing d job of mopol.
Nevertheless, I think that CP has misplaced his priority. How does this move solve the security problem the country is facing.

For the information of most of us, internal affairs dept is established in all police forces including the ones in developed countries and can't say of Nigeria and its responsibilities include similar things been reported on this post. Without a functional powerful, well funded and equipped internal affairs dept, you could never have a disciplined and working police. More of this

Not every police officer is corrupt.we still have a few God fearing ones amongs the lot.The former IGP Mike Okiro, recently said through out his service in d police,he never collected bribe even wen he was offered a lot.My ears is on the ground to see if any body in the police or public will come nd prove him wrong.not all are Farouk....lol

This 6-point agenda still wont work in an environment like ours where the average policeman or woman believes that they are ogas to the rest of us. They need a complete re-orientation. The present crop of policemen are corrupt and untraineable! what we need is a complete revolution of the whole system

Please AIG come to Port Harcourt and see your boys and bad dressing,

i have also seen a police man dress with a bathroom slippers.
Sir the rate of carpentry dressing in the police force is alarming.
