It is no longer news that corpers do go from being employed for a period of one year by federal government to being unemployed after. why? |

1.The country's economy is not diversified. 2. Corruption. 3. Half baked graduates who either bought their result or bribed their way through sch. 4. Selective exploitation of jobs; some people with pride would not want to start small, they always want it big. 5. The truth is......Some corpers are sincerely eager to work and are ready to sweat looking for jobs and getting interviews. They are also no so choosy or picky! There are others who really are not serious and they have a very short list of where they would like to work....Shell, Mobil, First Bank and ASo Rock. Quite unfortunately, these places can only take few people. This set may end up waiting for long and then run after any job that shows up after a while. Because If that Corper was me, during service he was always calling in sick, he was very lazy, and got the job through his father's connection anyway... As a result, he was not retained after service.  Luckily, the now ex-corper managed to scrape money together to do Masters in Jand, where he now works as a cleaner at Heathrow airport. 1 Like 1 Share |

Because they start appling 4 job wen dey finish nysc. If one start appling 1 mnth b/4 pop, dey may call him/her 4 interview say 2 or 3 mnth after nysc. Also, dey dnt hv anoda certificate 2 support deir 1st degree. Again, dey ignor orda of dey certi in d hus, thinking dt dey r nt impt, bt dey r 2 ur employer. Leta |

Reasons are legion! One is that they are cheap labour. The people that would've employed them get them for free! Then again there is rampant nepotism in Nigeria. People would rather put a 'yes' man with no qualifications in a position than somebody with proper qualifications. Then again the Nigerian education system has been in the doldrums for over a decade so only overseas qualifications are acceptable to blue ]chip employers. Things are changing though albeit slowly. I'm no corper but the answer is obvious, there are many graduates every year that even the NYSC scheme is done in batches i.e not everybody that graduates in the same year would serve the country together. So after serving its not a must the government retains them coz there are still more corpers waiting to serve. So its a turn by turn parol. |

Yello1: It is no longer news that corpers do go from being employed for a period of one year by federal government to being unemployed after. Free, Educated Labour.. If you owned a company and were guranteed free trainable labour every year, without the added liability of bonuses and pension, wont you take it?! Thats why somehow, every year, 85% of corps members are employed in one form of work or the other, yet after service, those companies have no vacancies for retaining them, yet the same posts they occupied will be filled by new incoming graduates.. The banks have benefitted from this scheme, Education as well.. So every year, the government basically helps peoples businesses grow by giving them free labourers.. In the US, you simply enlist and serve in the Army, In Nigeria, you simply run around a camp for 3 weeks, eat the worst food of your life, wear the cheapest clothes ever, march and get bossed around by illiterate Military personnel, Then you get shipped off to work for chicken change for a company somewhere for one year, after that, you get abandoned.... 7 Likes |

kokoye: where are the jobs?Jobs are everywhere but the skills are lacking. ATM engineers and technicians are needed by banks. Telecoms Exchange technicians. Nuclear energy scientists are needed now at our atomic energy laboratories. There are so many jobs but the skills are lacking... you see grauduates with pure sciences and social sciences and education degrees all over the place. These are not applied knowledge. We need to go back to skilled sector. That's where the money is. 4 Likes |

Some of the Youth Corper are not employable because THE MARKET FORCES AND EVEN WHERE IS THE VACANCIES when you consider the volume of Graduates from more than 54 Tertiary institution in Nigeria,moreover they cannot read books again and some are business oriented and prefer to be a millioneer overnight through yahoo yahoo Why some are not academically sound at all GOD BLESS NIGERIA
