Nationwide Strike Looms In Mainstreet Bank •as Labour Issues 1-week Ultimatum by Neversaydie: 9:22am On Sep 07, 2012
ASSOCIATION of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI) has given the management of Mainstreet Bank Plc one week ultimatum to settle the entitlement of sacked workers or face a nationwide disruption of operations.

The association also called on Nigerians to intervene in the issue, as the management of Mainstreet Bank Plc had refused to settle its sacked members.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, on Thursday, president of ASSBIFI, Mr Sunday Salako, expressed displeasure over the manner at which the management of the bank handled industrial matters, stressing that the association had demonstrated enough maturity while the offensive lasted.

“The ultimatum, which started today, had till next Thursday to lapse, as the tripartite committee set up by the Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr Emeka Wogu, had concluded its sittings and submitted report to the minister on August 13.

The meeting requested the bank and its principals to look into the payment of the disputed benefits, but the management had failed to honour the agreement,” Salako said.

He added that “now that ASSBIFI has obeyed this resolution totally, by waiting for the outcome and implementation of the recommendations, we should not be blamed for any action taken by next week as the management of the bank had refused to comply with the recommendations made by the committee.”

Efforts to get the spokesman of the bank, Moshood Isamotu, to react failed, as he did not pick his call or reply the text message sent to him by the Nigerian Tribune.
