@salsera i wouldn't Don't stress yourself. It is impossible to evaluate everything that has to do with fertility. Also remember that up to 40% of infertility is male factor. |

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 12:12am On Aug 06, 2008 |
@ gentle one Same to you @tees I would suggest taking a pregnancy test if you are past due for your period Some patients with endometriosis may experience pain prior to menses. You should visit your gyn |

Hi Kathy, How's the going? Well done oh! I have these questions: Folic acid is usually recommended to women trying to conceive, (before and after conception) in order to prevent the baby from having neural tube defect, just suppose someone did not take it before getting pregnant, is the baby bound to have the defect? (2) Can a woman who suddenly discovers she's pregnant increase the dose from the recommended 1 tablet to 2 or more to make up for the missed one? Thanks for being there. |

Good day all the gyn in the house Pls can some one tell me if it is good to have sex after ones wife is pregnant, will sex not hurt the pregnancy pls am worried and confused and i want reply soon Pls what Ngerian food is good/bad for a pregnant woman(pls i need info about bournvita etc) Also what kind of exersice is good/bad for her |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 1:37am On Aug 08, 2008 |
@titilaelae No, a child might not have the defect and doubling up on the pills will not have any additional benefit as the folic acid is not stored but excreted. @mamaa It may take a while for your period to get regular. Also be prepared that it may never be the same as it was before you got pregnant. As for the sex thing, if you read this thread, you will come across some of the info I have given on the topic. There is no definite scientific way to have a boy however, there is the belief that if you have sex on the same day you ovulate, you will have a boy |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 1:40am On Aug 08, 2008 |
@gasplant I understand your wanting a reply soon. Have sex. No it will not hurt the baby. If your partner used to exercise before, she doesn't have to stop however this is not the time to start an intensive workout regimen. Stay away from large fish, they store mercury. Drink bournvita, it does a body good. Remember, she is pregnant not invalid. |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by Krrush(m): 2:45am On Aug 08, 2008 |
a.A.K: @a.A.K There are different "prostate conditions" as you call it but you probably shouldn't be to worried, as yours isn't likely to be a life-threatening one though it may prove hard to treat by medical experts. Yours, I believe, may be Chronic Prostatitis. This is inflammation of the prostate gland, usually of bacterial cause. "Inflammation" simply put, means "tissue damage" i.e. disruption of the normal tissue structural arrangement, usually arising from forceful trauma/injury, infective organisms or chemical damage. A youth who gets frequent Urethritis - infection of the urethra e.g. Gonorrhoeal Urethritis - may quite easily develop Chronic Prostatitis. Also, repeated trauma to the perineum - the area which you described that is between the anus and the scrotum - could lead to the condition e.g. frequent sitting down on a bicycle or more direct trauma from accidents and injuries to this area, in the past. Use of antibiotics may be needed for as long as 6 - 8 weeks at a stretch due to the fact that the Prostate gland doesn't easily allow antibiotics penetrate into itself, making it difficult for the inherent, causative bacteria to be killed by them when used for shorter durations. A Urologist would be well aware of these facts. Get a referral to a Teaching Hospital to see one. Remember, there is no way I can be reasonably certain of my medical opinion here, hence the need for you to see the specialist. Good-luck. Give us a feed-back, if you please. |

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 4:43pm On Aug 10, 2008 |
@mamaa ovulation occurs 14 days before the onset of menses. She should keep a calendar where she notes the first day of her period. This way, she knows the number of days in her cycle @ bracelet Sorry, have no idea |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 4:47pm On Aug 10, 2008 |
@snowwy It sounds like you are anovulatory which means that you do not produce an egg each month. You need to see your gyn so that you can be cycled especially if you want children. As for the discharge it is normal for the vagina to have a discharge. Lack of smell or itching shows it is not infectious and is most likely what is called leukorrhea. @cayon It's impossible to say. You should see your pmd for an exam. |

bracelet: @bracelet A patient of ours found this chemical sometime last year at Alpha pharmacy. It's located on a short road off the popular Toyin street, Ikeja. This road off Toyin street is opposite Water Parks resort on the said Toyin street. Good-luck. |

a.A.K: You are welcome, @a.A.K Yes, antibiotics are commonly not given for more than 1 week for most infective diseases. However, this is not always the case, as you now know. In some infections such as Tuberculosis, a combination of anti-biotics are given for as long as 6 months or even up to a year, in the earlier days of the management of this disease. |

Hello Dr. Kathyekitti, I thank God for bringing some one like you to this forum to assist and put smiles on the faces of people. God bless you. Please Doc. i have been married for the past 6 months and have not been able to get pregnant. i later met a gynacologist and requested for a test or examination. though she insisted i should wait for one year before doing the tests but i insisted, and did a scan, then a test to check the tubes and a homnial test. every thing was ok, except that in the homonial test, the level of my prolactin is high. and she said that as a result, i don't ovulate. she prescribed some drugs like bromocriptine for me to take for perhaps 2 to 3 months, after which she said i will start ovulating. Doc, please do you think this will work? as i really do want to have a baby soon. and what other drugs drugs do u think i should take or what else do you think i should do plssssssssssssssssssssssssss. |

Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 3:58am On Aug 13, 2008 |
@ snowy Most welcome @ mamaa It is safe especially if it is for treatment of an emergencyu such as appendicitis |
Re: Doctor In The House:Obstetrics And Gynecology by kathyekiti: 4:01am On Aug 13, 2008 |
@olaedo Your gyn is correct in giving you the bromocriptine however you need a brain scan to ensure that the elevated prolactin isn't due to a tumor called a microadenoma. You should insist on getting one. If the scan is fine, the medication will decrease your prolactin and you should be able to ovulate soon. |
