IssyGenius:Hahaha... did that mistake in the early days, but now.... haha, my anatomy books have been stagnant for a while. Omo na biochem things o. |

jemmiee:unfortunately, anatomy (especially gross) doesn't deserve much attention (but deserves attention).. learning the code u are gone with your 50.. reading Keith moore with netters or Grant's to me is enough.. I believe one should read his atlas periodically then one is good to go.. writing answers straight to the point following a synopsis ..if is adult female breast(intro, body (describing nipple, lactiferous duct..e.t.c), blood supply, lymphatic drainage, clinical correlates).. shikena 5 Likes 1 Share |

Unfortunately our system is teaching students to cram.(we nid to cram). questions should be clinically oriented and linked to basics of anatomy.. a problem solving approach should be introduced... 3 Likes |

IssyGenius: I support that, I wish medschool in nigeria could make the questions more clinical such as if a man reports with pain so so so what nerve could be affected etc. As it's done in US. Then again our system seems archaic.. increasing years in school. |

good evening able medics in da house.... i am Joshua, i am not one yet, bt i hope to be later this year.. i am kinda confused about some things and i really need clarifications.... 1.. is MBBS an exam regulated and spearheaded by a medical school or there is a particular body responsible for the exam perhaps MDCN?? 2. do different "medical schools" write the same MBBS ? i mean the same question... or at least of the same standard?? 3. if the answer to the "no.2" above is "NO" ...aw do we test the quality of the doctors a particular med. school is churning out |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Millex(m): 10:27pm On May 22, 2016 |
joshiejosh:1) done by school but I guess there is some external supervision as in viva 2)if you are asking if it's like a standardised test like jamb, No. They have different questions, the school sets the questions so questions differ. 3)cant really say much but by their works you shall know them. However for a school to be accredited by mdcn it means they have satisfied the requirements needed to train doctors, it's then left for the student to be the best he/she can be 2 Likes |

Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by jemmiee(f): 12:12am On May 23, 2016 |
IssyGenius:Exactly... Ur head dey there jare... Although ai used Gray's anatomy. Very simplified, with enough details and with enough clinical application. Keith Moore isn't bad though, just that ai don't have the hardcopy, just the softcopy. That's just it, anatomy is straight to the point, physiology was mcq in MA time though, then bcm na the correct baba, you abandon it, it will abandon you. Loool. Onto cramming the pathways. |

Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by jemmiee(f): 12:37am On May 23, 2016 |
joshiejosh:1). The MB exams are spear headed by the medical school. The questions are not the same. There is oral, mcq, essay and practical exams for the first MB (after first semester year three) (depending on the school, I'm speaking based on Unical). 2). They definitely do not write the same questions, ai don't know if it's the same format for all medical schools in Nigeria, but there will be orientation for you, provided by your seniors to inform you on the nature of the MB exams in your school and if possible, enough past questions compiled by them. (For Unical medical school, others can speak for other schools). 3). The quality of medical students are tested during house job. E.g, my project supervisor told me not to do medicine in Unical, she advised ai go to Unilag or UNN, (she did her medicine in Unilag), because when she did house job in Unical (ucth), most of the medical students that graduated there did not know their left from their right, but she and some of her colleagues that graduated from UNN and Unilag medical schools were really shinning. She has been teaching in Unical medical school for more than five years and she said the way medical students are taught in Unical is not helping at all, hence she strongly advised Unilag or UNN. In conclusion, ai will say, those who are really good will be fished out during house job, and those who "managed" their way through medical school will be fished out too. |

Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Millex(m): 7:19am On May 23, 2016 |
Drguzzykola:I would like to beg to disagree, I think it all boils down to the students. I just dislike the mental abuse metted out to students during clinical. They are supposed to be taught in love not in fear. |

Ksudr:Unical is a good school, so is all 31 accredited schools, the question is, are you a good student?.... Cus I believe a school can only influence a student, but whether or not that student stands out among its peers depends solely on the student. Never mind my oversabi, just my thought 2 Likes |
Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by Donpre(m): 11:37am On May 23, 2016 |
flexcalvin:Same is happening to me right now (preparing for putme), buh I'm not scared because I figured out that I don't completely forget everything. It surprising buh whenever I simply revise, it all comes back. so just keep reading, then do a massive revision on all subject at once (alongside tackling past questions), 2 weeks towards the exams. This may or may not help you cus our retentive ability may differ, buh it's working for me by the way, you mean 350 ryt? not 450 |

Re: The medical students and aspirants thread by jemmiee(f): 4:12pm On May 23, 2016 |
Drguzzykola:Well, ai don't know. It depends on the consultants and senior residents in charge. Some are nice and welcoming, some are just there to frustrate students. |
