For me 1-2 years to study the loved ones on the serious committed relationship based on the following criteria below before accepting a proposal to get married:

Well that should depend on both parties.
I have seen people date for less than 6 months and are still married till today.

So i dont think time is an essence here.
However, knowing someone for a while helps cause then u can know a bit about them.

Personally, I believe for a marriage to last, it depends on the courtship. Before popping the question, the couple need to know a lot about each other. To achieve this, they must first of be friends, understand each other, and needless to say love each other. However long it takes, is just enough for the big question.

It doesn't mean it applies to me especially. It's a guideline. In other words. . . . . the younger you are the more likely it is that you are not entirely sure of what it is you want from a partner. But for someone who is above 30 to dilly dally for a year and still not sure where its all going then i think there's a problem.
