I am yet to understand why is it that it is only nigerian owned airflight company that always run into lots of debt.Air Nigeria bankrupt, arik owning alot of debt.Whereas the foreign operated airflights are doing very well. Does it mean that airflight industries is not profitable or nigerians lack good management policy or corruption where the nigerian owners just come to the airflight industries to make quick money, embezzle alot and leave the industry bankrupt having stolen enough. Please someone should shed more light. |

The aviation buisness is quite a tricky one, many Airlines do run into debt not only Nigerian owned airlines |

If we were in a country with working judiciary system, the passengers would have sued the airline for damages. God will help us. |

I attended a seminar sometime lastyear. In attendance was The CEO of Diamond bank who also was a keynote speaker. The guy said anyone thinking of venturing into the aviation business in Nigeria should think again. He clearly stated that all the airlines owned by Nigerians are running at a loss. It is only a matter of time before they'll be grounded. Here we are, a few months later Air Nigeria has packed up. Arik air grounded. Aero contractors is busy cancelling or rescheduling flights. Na wa ooo |

Am I correct to say, with this, only Aero is now operating on domestic routes? Na wa o. Spaces will now be so competitive that even if you book ahead and you dont get to airport thre hours before departure, you will lose your space. Na real wa. |

Fact is that the running a domestic airline with the present structure in the aviation industry ain't profitable, this is well known. |

Been studying the Nigerian aviation industry a while and in my opinion it fails in more than a few aspects to be defined as a real business. Nigeria is just not the place to operate an airline and if not that the industry's principal ethos is safety, I won't have bothered to comment. |

I think its time we reform our Aviation sector. Nigerians can't always be victim of their detbs. |

It is a combination of all your points and a few more. Essentially our airline business models are just wrong. For starters how many tickets will Arik sell to generate a whooping 17 billion. And that's just statutory debt. The cost structure is just wrong. With that sort of debt its just a matter of time they meet at the pub with Jimoh. |
