All these places are key areas in Owerri

Does it mean all the critical roads in Owerri are in a mess at the moment?

Many of us still remember:
Ihedioha government awarded contracts for reconstruction of two urban roads in each of Okigwe and Orlu urban centres. What happened to the road works?
You daily post here the progress of work on road contracts awarded in Owerri by Ihedioha.
We are not all nit wits that can be fooled into believing that Owerri is the only urban center in Imo state.

My brother, when we built on all the lands, there'll be no space for agriculture again o. Look at Anambra state, setting up mega farms while we are just concerned with building mansions with no economic value, as someone rightly pointed out.

Something needs to be done to save land for agriculture
Mansions that u will just live in for just a maximum of 2 weeks a year during Christmas period.

A lot of Igbo villages are fully built with houses and mansions but are deserted, the people living their can't do any reasonable business cause of the low population, OK let then farm they still can't cause of no lands.

Why do u think theres massive emigration

Instead of one mans house occupying a land section

Ten men house can occupy a land section

The reason I see most for absence of high rises is
1 electric city
2 want to build your own house
3 government is not aiding with laws and policies that focus on land use
They even go ahead to build housing units
4 water to service high floors

If the govt can give that encouragement
And tell people who want to build housing to build it in groups
There will surely be a way to get around it

To me it starts from the govt before private citizens can be focused on, I dont see why alot of govt properties will be covering acres of land. A a high rise, with the last floor been used as parking space, not where after using plots to build the building u then use another plot for parking space.

The mid entire floor would be the hall, while the upper floor is the offices.

It's a sand beach, sand mining is predominant there.

The major way to encourage farming and real and judicious use of land in IMO state is the govt should tax land owners.

Why would u leave ur land fallow, u are not using it to do anything not building not farming u keep it like that and say this one is for your 5years olds inheritance.

I dont see any problem with that but since u or ur son are not ready to make use of the land, give it to people who are ready to, at least during the course of their cultivating the land they will be able to pay tac to govt.

Whereas you raised a valid point, I don't agree with the emboldened. Rural-to-urban migration is not caused by land scarcity, NO!

As a matter of fact, you rarely see a household in a village in Igboland without ancestral lands because it didn't cost them anything to acquire lands those days.

Young people just move in search of greener pastures while their parents stay in the village.

Put simply, we have so demonized agriculture in southern Nigeria that most of us see it as poor people's business. True, agriculture is predominantly subsistence here.

However, there's a value reorientation now as a lot of young people are increasingly going into agribusinesses, especially in the South West

They need to stop it, it will have serious implications on the ecology of the area.

To me instead of us dredging our own rivers with negative implications, why can't we collabo with the FG, to be given access to be dredging the sand banks along the river Niger.

Free sand with no ecological impacts plus looking at the big picture it would push us into realizing our long time dream of having access to the Atlantic

Especially in the southwest and north.

I have said it before and I will say it again, the SE might have a small land mass but under Nigeria we do not. If we ad igbos can cone together to reason, why not we join forces together, to not just use our surplus lands for agriculture, but also buy up lands of border states and use it for agriculture.

Some states still have surplus lands we buy them use them as farms, setup the processing factories in the Igbo hinterland and farm the lands as they supply our factories a win win situation

This is quite offensive to citizens of those states, especially when they come across this article.
Is it not important to delete such comments for the security of Igbo people living in these states?

Calm down

Lagos State has acquired some lands from Ogun in the past

There's nothing offensive about it

It's strictly business: It's either you are interested or you are not.

If our people know that land is small for agriculture then let's go into livestock farming.

From cattle to goats to chicken to fish, let's make it become so abundant that we dont have to bank on any region for our supply.

Ask yourself all those yams, rice, etc been shared as palatives by govt during the covid19 where fi u think they were coming from. While our people were busy groaning of hardship people somewhere were busy smiling to the bank

And you join the handlers of IMSG, as you daily churn out here photos and speeches that drop the impression that Imo state is Owerri.

Ndaa Ejiogu and others handled Okorocha government- told the governor to build us Special Capital City in Owerri, ignore other places for future governors. Thenceforth, they presented development of Imo state as affairs of Owerri only.

You know what, those handlers of Okorocha government contested against his son-in-law for APC guber ticket, after Okorocha’s method of developing only Owerri attracted opposition to him from all over the state.
Kwontinue. Anyone who mentions any other place outside Owerri for development infrastructures is vituperating and frustrated in your dictionary.

There are many households with limited or no ancestral land in Igboland and like he said it is the major reason for migration especially in the central Igbo area covering Imo and Anambra States. A family cannot farm on 2 plots of land.

These screenshots ain't no city but conglomerate of built up villages across States.

Not every family must farm, am just saying theres need for igbos to go into agriculture.

If theres no land for commodity farming at least let's do livestock farming

You are deeply troubled by your imaginations.

In your awkward mindset, persons who call for extension of urban development outside Owerri, are just one.

That's not the reason, like as a result of unemployment and rural urban migration.
