Recently crime sections of National Tabloids have been riddled with stories of molestation and paedophilia . Is this a clear indication of lack of moral values , family values or can this disgusting trend be traced to religious / tribal / cultural backgrounds of those involved in this heinous activity or has this been a hidden practice that is finally being exposed by our media houses and tabloids ? Below are certain instances of paedophilia and incestous stories gotten from stories published recently by Daily Tabloids .

A 54-year old generator repairer has been sent to jail for allegedly sleeping with his 16-year old daughter and impregnating her in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

The man, Mr. Tajudeen Sanni, who hails from Oyo State was charged to the Family Court, Kakawa, Lagos, for impregnating his daughter and subsequently sent to Ikoyi Prison as he could not perfect his bail condition on time.
The 16-year old girl (name withheld) is now in custody of the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation for adequate care.

The victim had accused her father of sleeping with her several times, resulting in her being pregnant.

If Mr Tiamiyu Ibrahim, a 45-year-old mechanic, had been part of the Nigerian contigent to the just concluded London 2012 Olympics, he, probably, would have won a medal for Nigeria. The only snag is that his field of specialisation, 'bedminton' was not part of the sporting activities listed for the tournament. IDOWU ADELUSI, in this piece, reports the story of a man who put his mother-in-law in a family way.

MRS Aminat Ibrahim's story appears fictitious, but it is not. The claim of the 40-year-old trader that her husband is the father of a four-month-old baby girl born by her mother leaves one wondering whether Aminat knows the weight of her claim or not.

Mrs Ibrahim said she was ashamed and rattled by the development, adding that her unrepentant mother had threatened to curse her for exposing her misdeed.
Narrating how love affair developed between her mother and the husband, Mrs Ibrahim said her mother, who lived in a village at Apomu Area of Osun State, had been visiting them regularly at Oje Area of Ibadan where they (couple) lived.

Today, Anthony Adeyemi is a shadow of himself. He lives in depression and pain as a result of partial paralysis that he suffers. But as if that was not enough a burden for him, he has compounded his trouble by allegedly involving himself in immorality. Rather than living his life as a respectable father, he chose a path of dishonour by defiling his stepdaughter.

On Sunday, October 17, while Christian worshippers were on their way to church, Adeyemi was busy scheming for the forbidden fruit that landed him in police custody. The 55-year-old man was caught making love with an 11-year-old girl in his shop.

5.Tackling r.ap.e and intimate abuse in Osun

Molestation has assumed a frightening dimension across the country in recent times, questioning the soundness of the human mind and its ability to cope with emerging challenges.

A study conducted by a group of lecturers from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, under the aegis of Women on Molestation, intimate harassment and intimate exploitation, came up with alarming results.

The study conducted in Oyo and Osun states in liasion with a non-governmental organisation showed that 80 per cent of girls, before attaining age 18, experience intimate violence and abuse while 31 per cent of girls experience intimate violence and abuse before age 13! shocked shocked

@poster, I don't think it is necessarily the case that the crime is on the rise.

What I think is happening is that people are finally accepting that the problem will not go aware if they keep mute about it, and it is now time to get people incensed on what many have come to allow as norm in the society. And this awakening could still be only in select regions/states/cities. I mean if the media decided to aggressively document crimes that are committed on a regular basis in Nigeria, you would probably get a novel each week.

@Post

Pedophilia has always been an issue in Nigeria. It did not start today. It's just that, with the coming of the internet, Nigerians are gradually beginning to talk about these things because they probably realize that it could happen to their loved ones or friends next.

A 33-year-old man, Nkemakonam Nwoke is in trouble because he
molested female minors . Nwoke who lived at 7, Chief Nwatu Street
Emene, Enugu is said to have defiled eight female kids of ages
ranging between 3 and 6 years at his neighborhood.

Nkem’s molestation of the eight minors was unnoticed until one of the girls who could no longer cope reported to her mother that the man was doing ‘bad-bad’ things with them.

With further probing , the said parent was able to get the truth from her daughter who confessed that the man was molesting eight of them one after the other Consequently, parents of the victims contacted Mediating for the Less Privileged and Women Development and the man was arrested.

Narrating the story to our reporter in Enugu, Dr. (Mrs.) Betty
Agujiobi who runs the NGO recalled how she got involved in the matter. Said she: “I received a distress call from Emene, so I rushed there and it was a case of a 33 year-old man defiling minors in his area. One of the children was no longer comfortable with his lewd tendencies and she had to report to her mother and that was how the community knew.

The man had been defiling the children for over one year .” “When I
got there I had to interview the man and he admitted doing it . Asked
why he molested the children he said he didn’t know, that he takes
delight in having intimate relationship with children. He said he’s
shy and can’t talk to mature girls.

“I probed further to find out if probably he used his fingers or his
manhood and he told me he didn’t use his fingers but his manhood. The oldest amongst his victims appeared to be very shy to say what the young man had been doing with them.

ABAKALIKI-A 46 years old man, Mr. Kelechi Nnali of Nkpogoro, Ndibe in Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was weekend allegedly caught having carnal knowledge with a sheep by the roadside in the community. Stop raping girls, Osun group pleads
August 14, 2012 by Tunde Odesola, Osogbo

A Non-Governmental Organisation, Women Against Rape, Sexual Harassment and Sexual Exploitation, has raised the alarm over the rising incidence of rape cases in the country.

Addressing a news conference at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, on Monday, the group said 80 per cent of 3,118 students interviewed in a study it conducted had experienced sexual violence and abuse.

WARSHE, made up of lecturers of OAU, said it was alarming that rape and other forms of sexual violence against the girls in the study were perpetrated in the homes of the victims.

WARSHE principal researchers, Dr. Olutoyin Mejiuni, and Prof Oluyemisi Obilade, said some men capitalised on the trust reposed in them to rape their victims.

Mejiuni said, “About 31 per cent of respondents who had experienced sexual violence and abuse had the experience before age 13, and 80 per cent before age 18. The assailants who attacked the respondents were their relatives, a few teachers and religious leaders; family friends, neighbours, male friends and boyfriends.

“Respondents suffered shame, fear, aches and pains, cuts and injuries especially to their vagina, bleeding, loss of virginity, pregnancy and ostracism as a result of sexual violence and abuse.”

She explained that girls from high school and tertiary institutions in Oyo and Osun states were interviewed through questionnaires distributed between January and May, 2012.

Mejiuni said the incidence of sexual abuse was more prevalent in urban areas than rural areas, adding that females’ mode of dressing was not an excuse for rape or sexual violence.

She noted that despite the wearing of wrappers by rural women, the incidence of rape was low among rural dwellers, adding that laws against rape and sexual abuse were not deterrent enough.

Even as it is obvious this thread is borne of insincerity, it still exposes a serious and worrying topic. I think perversion is growing because of very easy access to pornographic materials through the net and cheap chinese DVD's. It is not even a Nigerian problem alone as I see other West African nation battling this problem too.

In a West African Nation I visited, there was a case where rape immediately increased significantly , in a rural area, after an 'entrepreneur of dubious morals began showing porn in his own converted cinema!!!! These problems will increase because of how Africans are - too often displayed on this forum. Alas, we cannot even confront a very serious issues with sincerity because everyone is busy engaging in childish antics designed to taunt others.

Can you please explain how this thread was created of insincerity ? I created a thread to address the rise of perversion in Nigeria and all you can do is make flimsy accusations . Shame!

Here is another case of Molestation / r.ape in the South West . So don't accuse me of being Insincere ! Clearly the has been a decline in the Moral and Family values in the Southwest and that has led to this trend of molestation / s3x abuse

Ogun: Two brothers arrested for raping 19-year-old

Thursday, September 27, 2012

…As man, 34, is caught with human abdomen

From MOSHOOD ADEBAYO, Abeokuta

Two suspected rapist brothers, Adebayo Tosin, 25, and Adebayo Opeyemi, 19, have been arrested by the police in Ogun State.

The arrest followed the alleged gang-raping of a girl, 19, while hawking palm oil along the Secretariat Road in Imeko.

Narrating how the palm oil hawker was raped, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Okoye Ikemefuna, said she was stopped by one of the suspects under the pretext of wanting to patronise her.

"It was in the process of negotiation that the boy forcefully dragged me into a place where other boys numbering five joined him and tore my underwear and illegally had carnal knowledge of me,'' the commissioner quoted the rape victim as having said.

The police commissioner further stated: "On receipt of the information, detectives from the Imeko Division immediately raced to the home of the suspects and arrested two of them while other gang members escaped.”

Ikemefuna, who said efforts were on to arrest the fleeing gang members, advised the public to be more security conscious and ready at all times to collaborate with the police to make sure "we sustain the existing sound security networking in the state."

In a related development, a suspected ritualist in Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu North Local Government Area of Ogun State is now with the police after he was caught with human abdomen and other vital parts.

Jimoh Olorunwa was caught after he allegedly excavated a grave and dismembered an unknown corpse buried in the Christian cemetery in the town.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, Ikemefuna said nemesis caught up with Olorunwa following a formal complaint lodged with the police in the town by chairman of the Christian Committee.

When he reported to the police, the Christian Committee chairman had told the police that when he visited the cemetery on a routine check, he discovered that some graves had been broken into and he suspected foul play by some ritualists.

According to the police boss: "On receipt of the information, surveillance was mounted within the cemetery area and this led to the arrest of one of the ritualists at the cemetery with human flesh (abdomen).”

He added that the suspect confessed to the crime and mentioned one Abore, of Odosinusi area of the town, who was currently at large, as an accomplice.

Olorunwa said: "I regret my action and I was pushed by the devil and the harsh economic situation in the state and in the country. I lost my job as a carpenter many months ago and I was lured into the business by a friend who is now on the run.”

Ikemefuna said efforts were on by his command to arrest the fleeing suspects, while assuring residents of the state that security would be beefed up at most cemeteries.
