This is very unfortunate.
But govts' should have strict policy on dwelling on flood plains (I'm not out to blame anybody here).

Dwelling on the flood plains of a river is always grave risk & worse downstreams a dam.

Anyone living in Owode/Ajegunle along Ikorodu rd & Majidun ikorodu, Lagos, should take a cue from this & start to plan evacuation. In fact all the areas lying on th Ogun river flood plains in&around Lagos are at risk.

You can't tame a rampaging river!

I heard the flooding happened because Kainji Dam was opened up. Something like that

I think it was a dam opened in cameroon that made River
Benue overflow it bank.
Kanji dam is along River Niger, which passes through Niger, Kwara and Kogi state.
Area affected are Taraba, Benue and Kogi state which are all along river Benue.
What made that of Kogi worse is because it's a confluence state. River Niger on a normal day if full, the dam in cameroon also added to that of river benue, which made Kogi to be more at risk.
