Flooding around River Niger Displaces Millions from their Homes.

The flooding, which was caused by the overflowing of the River Niger has greatly affected Lokoja which is a transportation hub between Abuja, the nation’s capital and most cities in Nigeria’s south.

Reports say that some of the flood victims were trapped on treetops in Lokoja as the crisis worsened earlier this week.

Premium Times reports that NEMA is currently camping over10,000 displaced flood victims in Kogi and the neighbouring Benue state, which is hit by heavy flooding after Cameroon released water from the Lagdo Dam, East of Nigeria.

It was also reported that the government has asked Julius Berger, RCC to free the Lokoja-Abuja road from flooding.

The flooding has claimed at least 20 lives across Nigeria and displaced more than a million. The extent of the flooding is is virtually cutting off the Northern part of the country from the South.

A lot of small villages in Lokoja and Kogi will soon be wiped out if nothing is done soon.

In a statement by the Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP) signed by its National coordinator, Mr. Chino Obiagwu, the government has failed to bring adequate emergency relief to the millions of Nigerians affected or displaced.

“Many have died and several thousands injured or under intense threat of imminent epidemic,” the statement said. “Despite this huge disaster, the federal government and most state governments have not sufficiently responded or provided the much need relief to victims especially vulnerable women and children.”

It has also been reported that the flood is spreading to some parts of Edo state.

share your experiance and view about this flood disaster which has been predicted for ever 29years.

Who is to be blamed for the lost of farm products, the high cost of garri, the damages to houses and the lost lifes.?

Government have since 29years ago warned all who lives in the river area to relocate.
The effect of their refusal is the total swept off of the whole Ibaji L.G.A in kogi state.

Who is to be blamed, Idah is over Flooding with the Ibaji survivals who ran for their dear life leaving all their cultural shrine, properties and farm produce.

Is mere warning to relocate justify the uncupbability of the Nigeria Government,?
Were do you want the citizens of riveren area to run to.?
For 29years what have been the militating mearsure the Nigeria Government have taken to ensure the poor masses relocate.?
It takes enough capital to leave one place to settle in another, you purchase land and start building. You need more to set up a bussiness other than your Farming skills.

Nigeria is a failed country, is it because the settlers in small villages refuse to relocate that julieus Begger was contacted to protect or divert the lokoja abuja road? [check the bold words above, GEJ protects only the rich].

I tell you the whole nigeria will suffer the cost of farm produce.
Because the displaced poor ibaji people are mainly the producers of Rice, Yam and Fish to almost all north central.

A tin of Rice sold for #1,200 is now #5,000.
Even foriegn Rice is increasing in price.
Fuel is now #160, because trucks can not make it to idah..
