Nigeria has other more pressing issues to worry about right now and designating smoking zones ain't one of them. On a side note, I am quite alarmed at the rate with which Nigerian youths are taking to smoking. Nigerians forget that in Nigeria, we don't have an excellent healthcare scheme or research hospitals that are very well equipped along with well trained medical professionals. Why do you think our leaders run abroad? Tomorrow now, when cancer comes knocking, we will see another thread on Nairaland asking for monetary donations to take the sick person to India or wherever for treatment. Nigerians be wise!

as someone who smoked cigs for 20yrs and beenon marley trips for a while now

There can never be such zone in Nigeria. One thing that keep surprising me is that, while the government keep telling us that tobacco smoking is dangerous to health , they have not deem it fit to ban its production and sale as they did to weeds and cocaine. Instead it went ahead to give licence to British and Americans to co- own one of the biggest tobacco company in Africa on our soil. Is this then not an irony?

Without mincing word, I can tell you are also a smoker. Hmmmm, either Cig or Weed, both are bad and cause more havoc than good if your health means a whole lot to you. But we all have our individual rights in choosing what's good for us, so choose wisely.

I heard there is a bill 2 barn public smoking. This is not to eliminate smoking but 2 help minimize d side effect 2 non smokers. To this, a designated area must be appropriated.
In fire safety, wen we talk about NO SMOKING policy, smoking areas are always designated. At d designated areas, we have fire bucket, ash trays and fire extinguishers in place.
So having such in a country is an extension of what coys do.

I choose to live with smoking those days but unfortunately after my weeding the wife now has change the story and I am proud of her. Smoking isn't good it's reduce strongly guys from satisfying their partners and vice-versa!

We are yet to solve the problem of beans and gari you are talking of such big invention where do we have the technology in the first place? For now the kaya would be smoked anyhow but don't forget to read the warning on the packet that tells you straight to your face that smoking kills.

Yeah...Yeah...Yeah!
Sad to say, a weed-smoking cousin has been incurably mad since 2004.
We love to identify some very bad habits with great & suceessful people so as to find solace with our indulgence, when in the actual fact, they represent a negligible few compared with the countless unknown and un-named that have been destroyed by the same habits.
If smokin was good, my brother wouldn't stop it: and even at that, he still battles with coughs, itches, etc,etc...
OPEN YOUR EYES and drop the pen called cigarette you are using to sign your own death warrant.
I never smoked & don't think I ever will. That's me though.

We really don't need such a zone. We already have some 'under bridge' in Lagos and 'bush' in other states where smokers congregate.
