Very True.

My own uncle was kidnapped a few months back. He was dragged out of his car while traveling from PortHarcourt to Aba.
His driver had his head blown off immediately. My uncle was taken for ransom, but somehow managed to take off into the bush, potbelly and all...

2 other people I know were kidnapped just last month, also around Aba.

My grandmother is terrified that I'm going home for Christmas...

Them Abia state brothers dont fcck around..them dey vex gan....

Now to the main issue at hand which is kidnapping for ransom. How about that?

You should find facts. You're the one making claims lol.

Without referring to any official statistics, is it not safe to assume that South East Nigeria is the kidnapping capital of Nigeria and West Africa?

I think Delta State actually had more kidnappings in the last one year. Abia was almost zero. Imo and Anambra had increases. Lagos is on the rise. Rivers had high but silent rate of kidnappings as people here are wealthy and quietly pay ransom without involving the police and media.

1.2billion?? i.e roughly 1.3m per kidnapped person?? The figure is definitely far higher than that. when we hear of kidnappers demanding over 10m per person.

ogugua88:

Even if so, are the kidnappings in Igboland, the smallest region of the three main tribal regions, enough to make Nigeria the global capital of kidnapping?

Do not mind the Idiot, he is trying to divert the news, how many times have we heard about the people that were rejected by their devilish oracle in the Ogun forest after being kidnapped by the bus drivers at the Yoruba lands, what about the Hadji travelers that were kidnapped by the taxi driver at Ibadan, what about the 24yrs old hunch back students that was kidnapped and murdered by his fellow students, what about the recent man that was kidnapped by his friends and murdered for a ritual in Yoruba town festival celebration. Kidnapping and other crimes is bad, no matter how we see and treat them. No tribe in Nigeria is a crime or kidnapping free. This is Nigeria we are talking about, no matter how we triberlize our problems it is still there. The earlier this meaningless country is divided the best. Bigotry is the main problem of Nigeria, because its foundation was formed on a false ground. NIGERIA IS A NEW CAPITAL OF WORLD KIDNAPPING. Very good record. Always the best in Crimes and bad news.

amor4ce: Boko Haram rarely kidnaps, and even then, oyibo victims. However, a certain self-acclaimed industrious people have been known to engage in kidnapping since as far back as the 19th century. Alarming statistics considering the absence of war and the likes in the homeland of this industrious people who even kidnap in the homelands of other ethnic nationalities.

Please, this fool should be ignored.

Don't blame the news, blame the facts. Okay, maybe Nigeria is not 1st, maybe it is 2nd, but does that change the fact that things are bad, extremely bad here? if you are taken for ransom, or one of your loved ones, does it matter if it is Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa gangsters that did it?
Re: Nigeria Accounts For 25% Of Global Kidnappings - AIO by Jisunpack: 12:10pm On Oct 04, 2012
Will yo have ever written this way if this news is about boko haram? or any other region? You would prolly have insulted the whole north including those that can't even reply single Hausa word.

Now, because the news is affecting south east you want us to view it as nationalistic predicament, right?

what you are playing here is known as double standards and as far as I'm concern, south easterners should find a away of cleaning this mess alone. Everybody must answer him papa name.

The spate of kidnappings in Nigeria has once again given the country an embarrassing reputation. Over the past few years, reported cases of kidnapping in the country has risen, with many cases remaining unsolved. In some instances, the victims are never found and the culprits are never apprehended.

The African Insurance Organisation (AIO), a non-governmental organization recognized by many governments has said that Nigeria accounts for a quarter of kidnap for ransom cases reported worldwide in the last one year.

The AIO disclosed in its newsletter at the 18th African Reinsurance Forum in Mauritius yesterday that Nigeria had been designated as the global capital for kidnap for ransom due to the huge record of kidnap cases reported in the country yearly.

In the report made available to Punch, the AIO stated, “The number of kidnaps for ransom in Africa continued to increase. In the first half of 2011, Africa’s proportion of the global total increased from 23 per cent in 2010 to 34 per cent. Nigeria is now the kidnap for ransom capital of the world, accounting for a quarter of globally reported cases.”

It further stated that kidnap and ransom insurance constituted the illegal taking and holding captive of an insured person and was triggered under the policy by a financial demand as a condition of the release of the captive.

Wow, what a reputation. It’s really sad that Nigeria just seems to be getting these notorious recognitions. We are somewhere at the top of the list among the world’s most corrupt nations. And now, we are getting recognized as the kidnap for ransom capital of the world. How shameful.

the bolded is the worst part of kidnapping common in the south west where people are kidnapped and killed for rituals .

kidnapping started in the southwest or you think we have forgotten one chance and the use of kidnapped people for rituals, it spread to the niger delta then to south east and now back to ss and sw. should we start counting how many people have been kidnapped in sw and used for rituals this year alone

938 persons kidnapped, N1.2 billion ransom paid in 8 months in South East
Reporters365 August 17, 2012

Kidnapping has become the fastest growing business in Nigeria’s south-east with no fewer than 938 prominent sons and daughters of the South East zone are alleged to have been kidnapped between January 2008 and August 2012, a civil society group, Campaign for Democracy (CD), has said.

Police authorities, however, disagreed with the figures, saying it was the figment of the imagination of the group that released the figures.

In a statement signed by Mr Uzor Uzor and Dr Jerry Chukwuokolo, the CD chairman and secretary respectively in the South East, said the kidnapped persons paid ransoms said to be valued at about N1.2 billion during the period.

The statement also said that kidnappers collected substantial amounts from their victims ranging from N5 million to N30 million per individual.

“Anambra State has the highest incidence of kidnapping of 273 persons, especially within the commercial axis of Onitsha and Nnewi. And it is happening at a constant rate for over five years now.

“Imo State with the current up-surge in kidnapping incidence has recorded 265 cases, while its residence is living in heightened fear.

“Abia follows behind with 215 persons so far; although the incidences of kidnapping had continued to reduce for some months now after the death of a notorious kidnapper called Osisikankwu.

“Enugu has recorded 95 cases in the past five years. However, the state has recorded the highest in abduction of government officials.

“Ebonyi is the least of all the five states in the South-east. It has recorded 90 cases so far officially. However, apart from kidnapping the state is laden with communal crisis,’’ it said.

The statement maintained that there was a need to take decisive actions to checkmate the spate of kidnapping in the zone.

“One practical way of doing it is the demolition of established structures or buildings used by kidnappers to advance their operations.

“The governors in the zone must work in synergy to address the issue of security and draft laws that would stiffen the penalties for kidnapping and other related offences,’’ the CD said.

The group gave the South-east governors’ forum till the end of October 2012 to address the up-surge in kidnapping and restore the confidence of foreign investors to the zone.

Contacted, the Deputy Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Frank Mba, described CD’s figures as a figment of their imagination.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the police was the statutory authority to issue the number of persons kidnapped in an area.

He, however, raised some questions over the CD’s statement: “What is the source of their information? What is the methodology of obtaining the figures? Do the CD work with the kidnappers or did the kidnappers render account to them?’’
And so? How does that make us the topmost kidnapping region in d world? Or is it because Seun and d mods always bring up topics to indirectly ridicule Igbos on this forum? What of your Yoruba brothers who have made living in the U.K and U.S a living hell by your various internet scams and bank frauds.
