Nigerians are among the intending pilgrims to this year’s hajj in Saudi Arabia queuing to receive donations of food from native Saudi philanthropists in the holy land.

The Nigerian pilgrims were often seen forming incredibly long queues and pushing against each other intolerantly to reach the distribution points. Our reporter observed that the Nigerian pilgrims would normally converge in a vast parking lot attached to the grand mosque of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) waiting for the arrival of large trolleys containing foods, despite the baking heat from the midday sun. It was also observed that the process of distributing the food was always marred by occasional brawls which break out among the beneficiaries, causing the native Arabs serving the foods to harass, humiliate and disgrace them. At some instances, the food packages are thrown at them. Some of the pilgrims said they chose to join the queues not because they had exhausted their basic travel allowances, but because they needed to cut down their cost of feeding.
