I was in a discussion with a friend that just resigned from UNTL(making ankara textiles) ikorodu factory and wondered why he decided to drop a job without having another. His story was so pathetic. You need to ask anyone working in this company how there staff are been treated . This chinese guys are exploiting our brains due to the NO JOB syndrome. Their working hours---- 7 t0 7 , monday through Sunday. My friend was one of the Graduates recently employed in the company (Pay Less than 30k) no holiday. SSCE holders heads a dept of Graduates . Chinese guys with GOD knows certification talks anyhow to our graduates. please let us prevail on Concerned authorities to stop these Guys. You will imagine what these chinese guys( Foreign Investors) would do after getting all the Free Trade Zones been allocated to them in some parts of the country. Lets cry out to the authorities. WHY WE GO DEY DO SLAVE ROUND TWO FOR OUR OWN COUNTRY. NLC should do something about this. |

It is not their fault, we also share the blame. Until Nigerians learn to have confidence in themselves, the foreigners would continues to treat us with impunity. |

I worked under Chinese during my IT some time ago at a Textile company in lagos. I was priviledged of working in all the department from the raw material to finishing section. I saw alot of things then that made me resolve never to work in Textile firm even though there were great opportunities in the sector. While your observation may be right, you forget to mentioned, if you noticed, the role played by our own people in the whole mess. To every foreign firms maltreating our people, there are scores of Nigerian collaborators, mostly opportunists, motivating them to act the way they did. My supervisor at that time had GCE, but to protect his job, every graduates is half baked. He sold that idea to the chinese, who then treat graduates as slaves. There is alot to say, but let us realize that we can check them if we act collectively. Once we can identify the root, the first step is to start exposing them. The next is to reject any company that maltreat Nigerians. If NO one accept to work for them, they would change their attitudes. But some fools would work for them and still complain of being maltreated. What baffled me most at the time is that. Most of these firms would retrench their workers while still owing them months salary arrears. They would then, if any, pay stipend as severance package. Before you say, Yahoo, advert would have gone round for vacancies. Another set of hungary Nigerians take over. Few months later, they are systematically laid off in the same manner. And the cycle repeat itself! When I was an intern in another company, in Ogun state, I noticed the same trend. Though Indians own the firm. I told the MD the truth and promptly terminated my own programme without collecting a dime. The next thing I heard of the company was that it was liquidated months after my departure. Our resolution to tackle these menace depends on many things. We alone can stop them. Govt can't do much as long as they pay taxes. |
