The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended President Goodluck Jonathan for the improvement in the budgetary allocation to the educational sector which he submitted yesterday to the National Assembly.

In a statement by the National President of the association, Com. Dauda Mohammed, the body said it was commendable that the government had seen the need to invest more in the education sector in order to become a developed nation.

The proposal allotted N426.5 billion to education while Defence came second with N348.9 billion and the Police had the third highest share of N319 billion.

“The present commitment of the President Jonathan administration can be seen as a right step in the direction towards the attainment of our age long agitation for the actualization of the 26% minimum allocation to education as recommended by UNESCO. We therefore urge the National Assembly to compliment this effort by ensuring a timely passage and encouraging proper implementation of the budget,” the statement said.

He urged the Federal Government to ensure that all those who have been indicated as part of the murderers of the 4 students of the University of Port Harcourt be made to face the full wrath of the law.
