It is human nature to always look for someone to blame for self-inflicted woes. No amount of logic can change that. 2 Likes |

It seems a lot of Igbo people do not understand the issues. Here are the facts. - Awolowo was part of the people that implemented the blockade. (No doubt about this) - However, blockades were a legitimate instruments of war in 1966. There was nothing illegal about blockades in 1966. - The blame of starving civillians lie squarely on Ojukwu feet for the following reasons: 1) No one should go to war knowing that his war enemy controls his source of food, without making alternate arrangements 2) Ojukwu saw civillians dying yet he kept rejecting the use of the mercy corridors by international charities to bring in food 3) Ojukwu say civillians dying yet he did stop the war if he had no way of providing food to civilians 4) Most of the food being brought in were snatched by Biafran soldier and it never got to the civilians 5) The real reason Ojukwu did not do anything about starving civilians is becasue the imagery of starving civilians is the only propaganda that worked and gained Biafra sympathy from the outside world. This sympathy in Ojukwu's mind gave him hope that the outside world will support Biafra's war effort. And this was the only path to victory in Ojukwu's mind. Unfortunately, he miscalculated and ended up sacrificing hundreds of thousands of civilians. Can we now move on... 6 Likes |
