Why Is It Hard To Sell Female Artists In Nigeria? by MajeOfficial: 6:22am On Nov 05, 2012 |
I look at Nigeria and it's clear to see the only profitable female artist seems to be Tiwa Savage. It's not that we don't have an abundance of females that try but it seems music has always been dominated by men in proportions that eclipse other countries. When i listen to east african music it's very common to see a female singer or for them to use a female voice. As for us, traditional music and non traditional music is almost completely male except 1 or 2 artists in every generation that's female. Not saying that this makes nigerian music bad, im just wondering what your opinions were on the situation? follow me on FB www.facebook.com/ |

The average girl artist is seen as a potential slut in Nigerian showbiz, so producers want certain conditions to be fulfilled before the stage is set. I know a producer who proudly said ' who be that one wey dey make shakara, before she become star she bin dey my bed now small small bois dey beg for him' |

They're not as marketable for the following reasons: 1. They are hardly original except for a few e.g Omowumni. 2. They spend more time wanting to look or sound like foreign celebrities than actually creating their own identity. As a result, they're seen as wanna-bes and "fake". 3. They are not disciplined (same applies to nollywood actresses). Ranging from having the right attitude, lifestyle, eating habit, knowledge of your real worth, etc. 4. Societal influence MAYBE; every woman is expected to be married at some point. |
