The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a resolution directing the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) to within 14 days forward an advisory to President Goodluck Jonathan to forward a new revenue sharing formula to the National Assembly.
The resolution was passed after a motion on the matter was moved by Rep Aliyu Sani Madaki (PDP, Kano) who argued that since the return to civil rule in 1999, no president had deemed it fit to seek the input of the National Assembly on the nation’s revenue sharing formula as required by Section 162(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended.
The section states: “The President, upon the receipt of advice from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation andFiscal Commission, shall table before the National Assembly proposals for revenue allocation from the Federation Account, and indetermining the formula, the National Assembly shall take into account, the allocation principles especially those of population, equality of states, internal revenue generation, land mass, terrain as well as population density.”
Though the motion was unanimously adopted, Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal who presided over plenary explained that the ongoing constitution review process include an amendment to make RMAFC forward a reviewed revenue sharingformula at any point in time to the National Assembly, rather than the sitting President as was the current practice.

This revenue sharing thing which has made Nigeria states lazy, uncreative, unproductive and increase corruption. When are they going to move motion on state independent on federal allocation when every state will stand alone on it's feet. Instead of sharing, sharing and sharing.
