MY GRANDMOTHER’S ILLNESS

My grandmother was getting very ill,
She lay on her bed weary and still;
And didn’t move her body or stir her toes,
And not eating, even worsen her woes!

We called a doctor to cure her disease,
And heal her and make her body at ease
We felt she was in great pain,
She rebuked us saying,
‘Nothing will persuade her remain in the world!’

She and grandfather were apart,
Grandfather was dead, and she loved him with all her heart;
She wanted to die without any delay,
Even if death comes this very day!

Her chest heaved up and down,
Neither did she complain or frown;
But she had on her face
A smile so bright that can make hearts race!

Next day, she was dead;
Breathless on her bed
Rooted on the bed like a stone,
And her body chilled to bone!
