There is no one here that will criticize Oliver Twist. That is a world wide hit. If this track was as good as Oliver Twist, no one will criticize. The truth is that over the years, D'Banj gave us a lot of hits. Now we expect him to be excellent in every track. Even Akon flops on some tracks. So let us be patient. The KokoMaster will deliver.

Honestly, how can you criticize a song you are yet to listen to properly? Immediately the link was pasted, criticisms started flowing with the one from Ikeangawo or whatever he calls himself being the most stewpid of all. The dude was even analysing the video and complaining about the technique used for smashing the glass. Some people need a cure ASAP.

Talking about Oliver Twist, the track was greatly criticized as well as trash by most people. The success of Oliver Twist was a great shocker to most people. No one is against criticism but the way most people do it, it is so obvious to see that theirs is borne out of undiluted hatred and prejudice. Go and check the other threads that were posted for othe songs and see the amount of comments...very few. When Dbanj won MOBO, these haters were nowhere to be found as that particular thread was avoided like a plague. Why didn't these critics drop a line of congratulations for him? The rest follows. D'banj is the biggest Nigerian Artiste at the moment and this has shown his popularity the more.

As for D'banj living up to par, may I remind you that, he has nothing to prove again. He has attained a great height in his career which is even envious for most Artistes. Nothing lasts forever, no one lasts forever so if he flops, it is a natural thing but I doubt if he is gonna flop anytime soon. I just hope some people won't be hospitalised if he wins a Grammy.

Oliver Twist strikes you from the intro. It is amazing. It is banging. D'Banj winning the MOBO was expected. What you guys don't know is that people criticizing D'Banj, knows he can do better. This track will never win him any award or MOBO and you know it.

What is our own, D'Banj is making his money. Our only benefit is hit music that is nice to our soul. D'Banj gave us lots of that from the past and we are just hungry for more. This can't satisfy that hunger.

Jay-Z had nothing to prove but he gave us a classic BLUEPRINT III album. Akon got nothing to prove, he got Lady Gaga bringing millions of dollars to his table but he still gives us hits regularly.

I hope you don't feel D'Banj has reached his pinnacle yet. There is still more hits that can come out from him. We should not be satisfied with songs that are not up to his standard. D'Banj is huge and this track is not up to his level.

please remove the "a" from your "a good music" and "a bad music".... i am sure it is a typo.. wink

Guy go check your english properly before u come dey spit nonesense here, a good music is correct english any time, just like saying a good song. Music is a noun that can be used to describe a collection of sounds and this can be good or bad. You are considering music as an unquantifiable noun and yes it can be used as both. Thanks

For ur info, femi kuti(grammy nominee) is more global than dbanj and yet still doing his african thing and getting recorgnition for it, was shocked to know he voiced in grant theft (video game)...dbanj should continue with what has brought him this far and stop trying to "strike a balance".. So stop giving bad advice .. #getsense

this is where you get it wrong....
femi kuti's music is pure afrobeats - d'banj is afro-hiphop! the concept is to fuse african sound with pure american hip-hop.......d'banj sought after the big people in the game and joined kanye..........the entire project is no longer his, he must tune to what his record label wants otherwise why did he join them in the first place......you mgbeke nigerians need to go out more and understand what it takes to make music and sell to a global audience!

One eyed analysis. What happened to the likes of those you mentioned? Why are they not clinching the awards as much as D'banj? Do you know what it means for someone to be acknowledged as the best musician in Africa not once? Or you think he bribes to get awards. Those that give him the awards know what they are doing and they are not as tone deaf as you are. I doubt you know all these cos if you do you won't spew this trash up here. You said he is not a musician but an entertainer. Are you for real or u just joking. What is the function of a musician if not basically to entertain? Your post makes no sense atall. Try and review it.
which nonesense award? e don win award reach femi kuti or papa wemba or mariah makeba? abi e don win grammy? nonesense roadside awards. Most of which are for Oliver Twist (much credit to DonJazzy) - watch as your daft kanye west ass licking hero falls down in slow motion. Dbanj is not a musician and got no music in him, I repeat he is good for MC at wedding ceremonies, probably playing his harmonica by the side.

Someone just mentioned that D'Banj's music is Afro Hiphop. Please, desist from such misinformation.

As a matter of fact, I must first start by saying that this is not music. Like D'Banj has often said, he's an entertainer. He's simply a Milli Vanilli. He needs a songwriter, a vocalist, a producer, so that all he will do is go on stage and mime the song. If he continues to deceive his new American partners that he can create music, he'll end up on the road he's been headed since the past few months, which is utter failure.

To you, Oliver Twist may strike from the beginning but to those haters, it never did.

thegoodjoehunt: What is our own, D'Banj is making his money. Our only benefit is hit music that is nice to our soul. D'Banj gave us lots of that from the past and we are just hungry for more. This can't satisfy that hunger.

The first sentence is what people need to know. They should stop being too hard on the dude. I see you are an Oliver Twist and you hunger for more. Well, there is no crime in that.

thegoodjoehunt: Jay-Z had nothing to prove but he gave us a classic BLUEPRINT III album. Akon got nothing to prove, he got Lady Gaga bringing millions of dollars to his table but he still gives us hits regularly.
Okay. I get your point but a hit song cannot be determined in 5 minutes. It is the outcome of a song overtime that determines what is a hit and what is not a hit.

thegoodjoehunt: I hope you don't feel D'Banj has reached his pinnacle yet. There is still more hits that can come out from him. We should not be satisfied with songs that are not up to his standard. D'Banj is huge and this track is not up to his level.

Well, he has tried. At least, he has won everything winnable in the continent from his debut 2 KORA awards to his 3 times MTV best African Act award to Channel O awards and so on. I understand that the thirst for more from him is basically borne out of his new musical sojourn.I hope he lives up to it but if you see a decline, it is a natural thing. No one reigns forever.

Your post is a fair criticism and not like some other useless ones borne out of hatred.

Spot on, Honestly I didnt like Oliver Twist until I heard it played in club, the fact is that people are harping the fact that Don Jazzy is not Dbanj's right wing man! I would say it again no one knows or cares about who produces a song! Not many knows produces Michael Jackson's thriller and no one cares, The Spice Girls rip up the record book, but no one heard of the producers. I know Don Jazzy's fanboys are desperate for their man, I have seen P Diddy produce hits with Biggy, Usher, Maze, Busta Rhymes etc. A part from Oliver Twist can someone name another hit Don Jazzy produced?

Dbanj is not representing Nigeria or Africa, he is representing himself, its his career, its not a diplomatic role he is taking up.

Ikengawo: Let's stop celebrating mediocricy.
The song was trash, has no point and is not memorable or noteworthy
the video is only shot with a standard 2012 HD camera, that doesn't make it quality, there are youtube videos with the same resolution so don't be wow'd by shininess. Look at the details. The woman 'smashes' the TV but they use a cheap CGI 'glass break' effect because they couldn't afford to smash an actual TV.
the woman 'smashes' the car window and it's the same thing. Mind you it's all completely pointless so you can't say the video was 'quality' there was nothing special about it.

The only reason I would say any of these things is because im worried at the level of 'america wanna-be' the nigerian music and movie industry is taking. We were able to be #1 in africa because for the first time we were showing the world africa. I don't think there has been a video shot in africa this year and the enthuasiasm for the music and movies are dying because instead of being africa we've become the cheap version of America. Sad thing is now we appeal neither to americans or nigerians. I hope this is just a foolish trend. These artists are getting arrogant and thinking anything they put out is gold. If you look at this years biggest hits

Kukere
Ile Ijo
Chop My Money
Pakuromo
Dami Duro
Nwa Baby

they still sounded very african, looked african, and used africans as the stars of the video.
This is a disappointment.

Once a song is nt a dancetrack like all d ones u listed,it wnt b apreciated.dr z nufin wrng wt dt track,in fact iv lisstened to it now like 10 times ova again...I pray one day nigerians will apreciate gd music nt jst any cooked up danceable gbeduum

Music is a diplomatic role. Why do you think when Michael Jackson won multiple awards at the Grammys, President Ronald Reagan said, " Michael Jackson, your success is an American Dream come through ". MJ's success was so great that the president was moved. Why do you think nations celebrate footballers success. It tells on the nation.

Why do you think President Goodluck used him. It is because his career is a voice for the people. That is why critics frown upon Musicians that mislead people with their music.
