Why do we keep going round and round in circles?

Ngige is the Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on power,
a body that is vested by law to exercise oversight functions on the activities of the executive?
Was the request and appropriation of funds for the power project by OBJ not approved by the senate?
Was the project not subjected to due diligence before Senate’s approval?

If OBJ had wasted our common wealth on a bogus project, he did so with the collusion of the Senate.
If Ngige and his colleagues at the NASS are serious people, they should have commenced moves to prosecute
not just only OBJ but all the other public officials who have been fraudulently and systematically depriving
us of our common wealth.

Of course, they will always keep quiet during the awards of contract to protect their selfish pockets and then
continue to hoodwink themselves in philosophical talk about the need to correct crimes perpetrated against the
Nigerian state not by prosecuting the culprits but through the awards of new contracts on the same old projects.

A body and its membership responsible for oversight functions on the activities of the executive cannot absolve
itself of complicity and culpability on the wrongs of same executive.

Does he want us to start reeling out executive incompetence and mismanagement under the watchful and supportive
eyes of the NASS?

Sorry, I forgot, this is Nigeria and it’s a PDP party affair.

Nonnyz:

Don't say what you don't know. Agreed. Obj started and awarded most of the power plants under NIPP and funded by proceeds from excess crude account.
But it will be most untrue to credit him with 90% completion.
You will recall that in 2007, the house set up a committee to probe the power sector led by Hon Ndudi Elumelu. The committee established massive corruption in the handling of the NIPP power projects. In some cases, it was revealed that 100% payments have been made without any tangible project on ground. So how can you now claim OBJ completed 90%?
In some of the cases, the committee met overgrown weeds in places designated as power stations.

Due to these shocking revelations, Yaradua abandoned the NIPP projects without making alternative arrangements for generation.
It took Jonathan to intervene with his power sector roadmap. The roadmap was anchored on the revival of NIPP projects. Under Barth, the president pursued an aggressive refurbishment and completion of the power plants. This has yielded fruits as generational capacity has hit over 4000 megawatts.
Jonathan did it in less than a year. He deserves all the kudos.

my friend, stop hyperventilating. i never said OBJ completed it by 90%, I only said OBJ is singly responsible by over 90%. your very own explanation simply corroborated that. Such huge projects have multi year span, so even despite most of it being conceived, paid-for and started under OBJ, only minor fraction of it was completed when OBJ left office. Yar'Adua's intrusion halted d project which automatically shattered its delivery dates and raised costs. Govt has to make extra payments to offset these excess costs and new modifications alongside extended project dates.

So I dont see how GEJ became a hero in all these. It's either he releases the extra fund and approve the modifications, or lose the value of already paid $16bn.

Simple!

Bros, Ngige achieved in few months while in fierce battle with his God-Father, what even Obi has not been able to achieve in his 6 years + now. Am proud of his antecedents even before he entered politics. He is one politician who can rebuke any present or past leader in Nigeria without any fear.
