Role of Pets in a Family. by Nobody: 7:10am On Nov 26, 2012 |
Ever wondered if Nigerian Families keep pets just for their Traditional role is the Family I.e Companionship, affection, errands, Security e.t.c. I've always loved pets especially dogs from when I was a child and the cuter they are, the better. So I'm wondering what pets you keep in your home and for what purposes. Original Post Edited* |

Very necessary. . . They help to teach children a sense of responsibility and how to 'share', 'love' and 'care'! We always had dogs as children. . .it was fun to see that they were well taken care of. We thoroughly enjoyed the roles. . . . When they died or got lost. . .it was sadness for us. Subconsciously, you are building the emotional compasses of your children. . .so they can have meaningful coping mechanisms as adults. . . NOT EMOTIONAL VAGABONDS! 9 Likes |

I don't know any role pets have in the family especially cats! They are better off chasing rats but these days, one will say no rats again for them to chase. Just sit, eat and sleep! |

I hate pets . . . Growing up, there were all around us! Dogs, cats even a monkey one time . . . I always hated them. Especially cats. The way they crawl up to your feet when you are not looking . . . urrrrgh! My husband has a Dog though more for security; but I don't allow it into my house or close to my child. He keeps it far far away, locked up in a cage. I hate animals! 1 Like |

chaircover: LOL Vikin..... They are cute when they are far away from me. hahhah....i understand, i try to like them now. try scratching their head for few seconds, then see me running off to wash my hands for more than 5mins with warm water. I think it has to do with the story of cats and whooping cough i have always had in my mind. |

I love dogs, they are good for security. I have 3 German Shepherds in Port Harcourt and I sleep with 2 eyes closed. You dont knock at my gate after 10pm otherwise they will chop you alive. I HATE CATS alot, I dont know why some peeps keep them as pets... Cats are creepy and poisonous... |

we have always had a pet, dogs and canary birds,Roger is our pet Alsatian and i'm green with envy when i see the love he shows my dad when my dad comes back from an outing.I will definitely have a dog when i have the space.Dogs are amazing. our dog is so not for security more like companionship , if any thief tries to rob my house , Roger will most probably lick the thief to death then he will proceed to escort them to where my dad keeps his emergency money, he is that useless but we wouldn't trade him for jack , he is part of the family i'm very skeptical of people who hate dogs 4 Likes |

Reasons for keeping Pet animals: 1. For security 2. For private services(ie pets like dogs can stand in for husbands in cases of their absence). 3. For Protein: dog is a very good delicacy. A trial will convince you. 4. For research 5. For NL front page reasons 1 Like |

Had this pair of white-Rabbit when I was in primary school. It was my singular job to care for them, beautiful gold and white coloured. They were wonderful pets hopping round the house and very neat too. Cutting the story short, I went to boarding school and nobody was around to take care for them and my Dad gave them out, it was sad.
