Doing the social media rounds yesterday is the alarming news that, allegedly, somewhere in the world mama and papa Jameson have named their newborn daughter #Hashtag. Yes, they really named their daughter #Hashtag.

The mother tweeted, “Hashtag Jameson was born at 10 o’clock last nite. She weighs 8 pounds and I love her so much!!!!”

But what were they thinking? Being named after a pound symbol most commonly used these days on Twitter is bad enough.

Honestly, it’s really not much weirder than the Egyptian man Jamal Ibrahim, who named his baby Facebook in 2011.

So is internet language the new trend? If this catches on, imagine the poor teachers in future classrooms? “Hashtag, go and sit next to Pinterest. Cyberspace, bring me your homework now and Spam, really, what did I tell you about putting pens up your nose?”

I can see only one positive here.
At least little Hashtag won’t have to think too hard about what symbol to get as a tattoo when she’s 18. Lol. Just kidding!
