Ajimobi Closes Akala's 178 Bank Accounts by Abagworo(m): 8:00pm On Nov 28, 2012 |
Ajimobi Closes 178 Bank Accounts Allegedly Operated By Akala By OLA AJAYI, IBADAN Governor Abiola Ajimobi led administration in Oyo State has closed about 168 bank accounts out of over 300 which his predecessor, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala allegedly operated while in government. Gov Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State and Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala After the closure of the excess bank accounts, he disclosed that his government realised N7b which is being used for developmental projects. Speaking through the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Adelabu Zaccheaus Wednesday in Ibadan, he alleged that operating the unnecessary account had resulted in the loss of several millions of Naira. The Commissioner stressed that the accounts were later consolidated into a few. He said, “I met 168 accounts when we came on board and another 150 in ministries. Now, how can such accounts be well coordinated? We had to close those accounts leaving only one in each bank. We realized N7 billion from those accounts”. Closing the excess bank accounts also blocked several loopholes through which individuals and organizations may steal government money. The commissioner used the opportunity to comment on the statement by the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, that government should trim down its workforce by 50 percent saying the advice, if heeded, would further plunge the country into serious economic mess. Instead, he suggested that the government should partner with the private sector to boost the economy. He explained further that government needed to generate more revenue and this necessitated its decision to partner with the private sector and also embark on other creative ways of shoring up the internally Generated Revenue. “Government exists for the welfare of the people. That is why people’s plight plays a central role in our decisions in Oyo State. Rather than sack half of the work force, government should seek other means of cutting cost and shore up its revenue to be able to deliver on his electoral promises. However I agree that over-bloated staff will stunt development but we will continue to be creative in finding solutions to the problem of funds in Oyo State.” He said. Continuing, he noted “we are wealthy as a nation but the practice of federalism in this country is lopsided. For instance, the allocation sharing formula is lopsided. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/11/ajimobi-closes-178-bank-accounts-allegedly-operated-by-akala/ |

Ajumobi is claiming to be Mr Clean now, by the he too leaves office, his own illegal bank accounts would probably double that of Ala Akala. Both of them are birds of same feather that flock together, so nothing new about what Ajumobi is doing presently. They are all rogues and self centered. 2 Likes |

All these politicians are the same. It is a lie that any amount was saved simply by closing accounts. Why won't they just say the truth which is that the bribes banks used to pay on govt deposits which Was going to several people under Akala has now been streamlined to be collected only by the governor and his approved associates. Akala democratised bribery by allowing several ministries operate their accounts whereas Ajimobi has decided on unitary bribery system. Period! 3 Likes |

Standing5: God help us. The COT and other related charges alone would av done significant good for the people.Oyo state is probably the only state in the SW that doesn't pay COT on any of its accounts. Akala no doubt was a reckless governor but he got the zero COT decision right. 1 Like |

I have worked with a bank in Ibadan before. Govt. account does not attract COT. All these account were not open by Governor himself but by Accountant General and some head in varios ministries, all in the name to help their relations who work in banks to meet their targets. 2 Likes |

He should close all these dubious account and pool everything in a state recognized account. They need to stop all this flirtations with banks. I wonder if all those accounts were not because a 'USELESS, Bleaching Governor', had to lay some adulterous bank account marketer. This practise is prevalent in all government circle including ministries etc; 'back for ground account opening' |

are those accounts personal accounts or state govt accounts, pls read the heading again and also find out how many accounts our 36 state governors run each, its unfair to castigate people unnecessarily,if they were state accounts, does Akala operate them as his own account till date?.These are all the questions u need to ask urselves when analyzing, and finally Ajimobi should let us know how many accounts is being operated by Oyo state now. All these slander news among politicians are usually with malice, when someone raisesan issue such as this or write stories,we shld first note the intention of the writer, our media is always trying to capture our innocence and brainwash us,i am not saying its true or not true, but search ur hearts and castigate without sentiments, from my own analysis the intention is dubious cos i believe all state governors keep so many accounts while in office,no exemptions. 1 Like |

His Government is a classic example of why we must not vote along party sentiments but rather based on d personality/integrity of candidates presented by political parties. How can he claim he made N7billion from closing several government accounts,....is that really an income? How come it took him a whole year and 6 months to close these accounts? ....I bet he has been carrying transactions on these same accounts all these while. |
