Dogs piss every where, even on farms, so let's not now pretend foods are farmed in biologically "safe" environments. That is why we are all urged to wash our fruits and vegetables before eating

That said, dogs don't piss on this here lawn nor in the backyard where I have a fence. Plus, I wash my leaves in boiling water before using.

I can’t believe you made something with dandelions and refused to share it. Considering it’s not something we eat every day, I’m kinda mad at you that you denied us the opportunity to see that.

My search on efo yanrin led me to the linking of it to dandelion which turn out to be edible here too. I don't quite remember sampling efo yanrin back in Nigeria but I can tell you that dandelion is great is soup.

No only is it free and in abundance - you can plant and harvest it all year around in container gardens - and I can't wait to test it in egusi and pepper soup.

But he likes to eat it alone, while my mum likes eating it together with another type of vegetable

As promised....Jollof rice, grilled chicken, ice cream, avocado, berries, cucumber and sliced purple cabbage

I made myself this for a solo treat. I deserve enjoyment and more.

My chicken was marinated for 24hrs in coffee liquor, lemon juice, suya pepper, other spices, sweet basil, fresh oregano and thyme.

I didn't make the ice cream though....It was bought. Avocado costs 50 naira. Cucumber was sourced from my garden

Purple cabbage was from the farm. We have purple cabbages for sale....do patronize me abeg

Yeah, I read that Dandelions compare to the likes of Spinach and Kale nutrition-wise - considered better even - and you are right that it sprouts really fast too.

I had expected a grassy taste to it given the smell. I first washed and blanched in serious hot water, then stored in the freezer for later use. Then I decided to add it to some left over soup that I had and felt needed some extra vegetables. It came out without the initial grassy smell to it, and had no grassy taste either as it tasted kind of like a mouthful of well prepared bitterleafs. Delicious although I do wonder if the taste would be the same if I hasn't included all parts of the plant - stalk(flowers as well) and leaves - together.

you included the flower!!!!! lol, it might not taste different IMO
The smell gave me the creeps at first but it didn't taste like it's smell at all after it was cooked, it was like a regular veggie.

I initially wanted to try it as a salad just that the smell kept putting me off too so I decided to use it as efo instead, and I am glad I did.

If you know of any other edible grasses abeg let me know. I love having soup alone for a meal and that means lots of vegetables too. So having decent alternatives to the expensive stuff in the store makes sense to my wallet and my pot.
