Did He Really Die?
December 1, 2012.

"And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph" (Mark 15:44-45).

The absolute and total physical death of Christ is essential to the gospel. Certain liberals and detractors have for years tried to obscure or deny this vital teaching, claiming that Christ merely "swooned" on the cross and later revived in the tomb, then appeared to His followers who falsely claimed His resurrection.

But to the Christian, the death of Christ is not an option. The Bible teaches that sin had separated each man from God, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God," being declared righteous only "through faith in his blood" (Romans 3:23, 25) which was shed on the cross. "Without shedding of blood is no remission" of sin (Hebrews 9:22). There can be no Christianity without the real death of the real, sinless Son of God.

It seems that the gospel writers, in recounting the events of the crucifixion, go to great lengths to make sure no one misunderstands. In Mark 15, for example, nearly 20 people are mentioned who no doubt would testify to His death. Consider the likely testimony of the Roman guards who had tortured Him to the point of death (vv. 15-23), nailed Him on the cross (v. 24), and watched Him die. The executioner (v. 25) and the centurion (vv. 39, 44-45) were trained in killing. They knew how to recognize death. The thieves (v. 27), the mocking passers-by (v. 29), the chief priests and scribes (v. 31), the grave keepers (v. 46), all would have had no doubt. Pilate was convinced (vv. 44-45), as were His many friends who watched (vv. 40-41, 47).

There can be no doubt Christ surely died, and He died "to give his life a ransom for many" (Mark 10:45). JDM

Wow! U know I'm only just paying attention to that verse. And it seems quite peculiar.

''Pilate marveled if he were already dead''

That means jesus appeared dead way before expectation.

They wasn't even a proper examintion of his body, it was just given immediately to Joseph.

How odd i say?
Could jesus actually have lived?

From what I'm reading, its quite possible.

So you believe that Jesus simply "swooned" at the cross and later revived in the tomb and then appeared to his followers who falsely claimed His resurrection and even died making this claim, right? undecided

There are many possible scenarios that could have taken place.
Pilate could have suspected he might still be alive, but becos of his pity for him, and his belief that jesus did nothing wrong, could have quickly handed him over to joseph.

Joseph, knowing he was alive could have put him in great care and given him the best of treatments (for he was a rich man) although discreetly.

He could also have devised a means to scare off the guards at the tomb.(also remember the bible was written by christians, so it is greatly biased)

Everything afterwards would have taken care of itself.

You could dream on but let us consider what is documented on the pages of Scriptures by eyewitnessess. Mark 15:44-45 tells us that after Pilate consulted with those involved in the crucifixion he was convinced that Jesus had died.

"And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead. And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph" (Mark 15:44-45).

Are you now saying that those centurion and others who witnessed the crucifixion and death didn't get it right or are you just saying this because you find it difficult to believe that Jesus really died?

Actually I don't believe he ever existed. I was just playing with u.
Before we even get to golgotha, there are already problems involving the story of jesus.

Like for example, do u know it would have being near to impossible for a man to carry a whole cross beyond a few meters?
And if u give me the excuse of super human powers, well remember a certain simon also assisted him later.
Besides, they would never have given him the cross if they knew it would have been too heavy.

Do you actually believe the date on your birth certificate is genuine, if you actually have one?

Before you arrive at the conclusion that the cross was too heavy for Him to bear do you know how heavy the cross was to start with?

The whole cross would have weighed about 300 pounds. Thats why many, even christians now believe he carried only the crossbeam, patibulum to be exact.

I really admire christians. U guys really know how to keep updating ur biblecheesy

Whether He carried the whole crossbeam or the patibulum as you said the fact remains that He carried the cross for you and me, assisted or not, no?

While you are still fascinated with the ink in the pen let me tell you of the Bible prophecy that was written about 500 years before it was fulfilled in Christ's death:

"And He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; because He had done no violence, neither was any deceit in His mouth" (Isaiah 53:9).

This prophecy that the death and burial of our Lord Jesus Christ would be with both the "wicked, and with the rich" is surely one of the most remarkable predictions that came to pass 2000 years ago. Tell us how such a prediction could possibly come to pass? Nicodemus and Joseph comes to mind here.

He did not only die but arose from the dead on the third day as He had predicted.

Believe that He died and rose again and you shall be saved.
