Surprised that nobody is asking the variety of this persons' portfolio. Ability to wriggle out of this mess is a function of the kind of stocks your friend is holding.
You are so on point.

@FrankTalk1, Cutting loss @ 8% is easier said than done. I have been in this shoe b4 and i know it

My brother I too have been there several times. Even if your portfolio is made of fundamentally strong company, putting down your pride and being bold enough to cutting your losses at an early stage is the most sensible thing to do EXCEPT IF YOU ARE WILLING TO ALLOW YOUR MONEY TO BE TIED DOWN FOR A LONG TIME.

Time is what we are looking at here! It is far easier and faster to recover from an 8% loss and even go ahead to make profits by entering into another deal, than it is from a 55% loss! The problem with many of us is that we get too emotionally attached to our holding and find it difficult to let go even when we see that we are progressively loosing money. We are all in this market to make money and that should be your focus and therefore to achieve this, you should always try to minimize your losses and lockdown your gains before they disappear.

Disclaimer: This is just my personal strategy which works for me. Several persons have their own strategy. Do whatever suits you investment goal.

@franktalk1, you have say it all,it's left for forumite to pick sth from it.what has worked for me all these years is i am never emotional attached to any stock of whatsoever be it a fundamental stock or not. So i take all stocks as a trade nothing more! And if i buy a stock with the hope that it will deliver based on some insightful facts but if turns d other way i will quickly push it out with no hesitation after perusing the unfavourable negative trend signal. An example is this,i have been watching Sterling bank to buy all this while at #2.20 but i kept seeing the stock getting stucked at #2.34 which was d new support and moving always moving to #2.55/#2.64.Well i bought at #2.32 eventually only waiting to book profit at #2.47(15kobo gain- that's almost 7% ) but to my surprise i was able to see that d sentiment had changed to negative then i instantly sold it at #2.35 so with this i can lose small insignificant change while still under morgan capital firm.

It means you can't set your 'BUY' price below 1.93

@all, a look at JBERGER stock won't be a bad idea. My premise is based on the fact that the share is trading farrrrrr below its 52 wks LOW. Greenish mode will be activated soon IMO

Thanks for helping. I quite understand that part but I am particularly interested in knowing the reason behind such limits - is this an NSE rule to prevent a share from a free fall?

Sentiments are still very weak on the market. See champion and zenith, with all the bids nobody is willing to bargain at high prices. People are just placing bids and awaiting further fall and entry at bargain prices. The bears are still very much around sadly.

You are so very right my brother, so much uncertainty still looms, all thanks to election and politics. Not even with the recent notice by INEC'S JEGA that election may not be certain in March anymore. Investors are scared as they dont know the direction of Govt.

Really it is time for discerning Investors to pick some stocks.

The Market is bearish now and almost at the bottom, due to uncertainties, withdrawals by foreign investors etc.

The norm i have notice is that the whenever the foreign investor sell off, and the prices are flat, no one is buying.
Most people start buying when the institutional investors bring back the dollars.

In short it is time to summon courage and buy now.

Look at the analysis below in attached

you can register to star buying stocks with as low as N1,000 by registering here http://etrade.capitalbancorpng.com/

So it seemed to me also. Just could not understand the desperation. So I forced myself to rationalize it this way: The rights issue is 1:10 and the bank will realize c.N11B. What if the bank decided to give a bonus of 1: 10 and tasere dividend so that the profits can be ploughed back into the business? That would be good for the bank but not as good as raising N11B for that same 1:10 issue. Of course, I don't expect a generous dividend from the bank for the FYE 2014 all the same. I guess most banks might opt for the script issue though.

Yes. NSE Rule: A stock cannot gain more than c.10% nor lose less than c.10% on any trading day.

I despised seplat at N253 per share now I'm regretting it cry cry Oando how far nah? Follow your brother's lead biko. cheesy cheesy

But on a serious note, Seplat has backed down on its plan to announce a firm intention to make an offer for Afren. But since it announced it was no longer interested, the share price has been rising steadily. I thought it should have gone the other way round. What's driving the share price of this coy? Earnings expectation? Crude price recovery?
