Hello house, I need an answer to my question.

I advised my sister to start saving money for her kids University education. She decided to make me the banker. She has given me 250k so far.
My question; is possible to grow this money on NSE? The eldest child is in SS 2, meaning in 2 years time he will likely be in the uni. Can 250K grow to say 1M in 2years? If yes, what are the strategies?

You surely can leverage the money by investing in US$, BP £ or euro € mutual fund, Eurobond or US$ treasury.
The economy of Nigeria is positioned for potential future devaluation of Naira.

This is hilarious.
But I hope that the enquirer is not discouraged by the sarcastic comment.
That is a good starting capital, if the thirst for growth and knowledge is right and diligently approached.

Oh really...I never took into cognisance their debt profile, but I thought they've being making massive profit for the past decade. However, going by few financial report I read in first quarter of this year, we learnt Telecommunications and breweries recorded highest financial growth trajectory in Nigeria, amidst pandemic scourge.

He should buy a Eurobond Fund through any of the Asset Management firms for a minimum of $1000.

You need up to $200,000 for you to invest directly in Eurobond, reason why the Eurobond Fund is better for retail investors.

That's reconstruction for you my brother.Anytime you hear about it, try to run away from the stock involved before it is suspended.

Looking at Mansard at post reconstructions, it is ripe to reward shareholders especially the dividend yield is very good. The results released so far not bad.

For Loco, Mansard and Lasaco are good to play at current prices. I am sure you will recover your losses in mansard in a short while.

How can one invest in Mansard?
What can you say about investing in Mtn?
Which other low-risk / good returns shares does one invest in?
I'm new to this.

Anybody with good knowledge can explain in layman language.

Ironically, most of the people buying IPO are not active in the market.

That has always been the case.
Before active member in the capital market buys ipo or any public offer it's always a last resort after much consideration and prices analysis.
However it's still okay for new comers at least to start investing even if they pay a little more with time they will understand. To them public offer seems to look straight forward because many people have that misconception that buying stock is complicated.

Good day all. I bought 433units of a company's shares and a dividend of #1.09 per share was announced but I got an alert of #155.88 in my account as against my expectation (433*1.09). Can someone kindly explain to me how the registrar arrived at #155.88? Thanks

Warning: LONG POST grin

I have noticed lots of newbies asking questions on : what to buy, how to navigate the NSE, dividends, regulatory agencies (like SEC) and custodians (CSCS).

My simple advice is to read up all you can as fast as possible and arm yourself with knowledge of stock investing. We were once like you. You may not get everything by asking questions. You need to do you own research and be confident you did the hardwork.

Pick books on fundamental analysis (FA) and consume as fast as you can. Then learn Technical analysis (TA). A quick slice of both subjects : FA deals with understanding the company financial reports, management, news pertaining to the company. TA on the other hand deals with understanding how price moved in the past and how it is currently moving using several indicators. When you have quickly and fully grasped these, then you can understand where you want to put your money.

Many people will not tell you the truth, stock market can wipe you out very fast. If you are in doubt, ask those on the US stock market thread grin grin Many people may only tell you that stock market gives lots of gains, there can be losses as well. So when you see a market rising with rage, bullish on euphoria, remember that oneday things can turn sour. I was once as young as you were and had the belief that it can only rise. However the market showed that it can rise and it can fall at will.

"With every investment, one can become richer or wiser but never both" ~Unknown

Arm yourself with knowledge, when you fall pick up your pieces and stand. And keep moving! It is only with knowledge that you can survive in any investment product.

There is a global decline in all asset classes and many portfolios are hurting. My portfolio isn't having a dent because many of us foresaw this event and warned especially the US traders. When people say a bullish move will last forever, don't always listen to them. Always remember that there are seasons for everything. A season to plant and a season to harvest. However people prefer to listen to what makes them feel good and truly a bullish rage makes one feel good. But you should always trade those investment with caution especially when you entered in the late stage of the bull. Always have a balanced view(bull and bear scenario) of the market so that you will never be disappointed.

On a positive note, some tech stocks are about to bottom. Few Emerging markets have bottomed (won't name them). Some will have more pain. Some commodities will have more pain. However arming yourself with knowledge (in this case TA) will help you know when it is time to start entering into the market.

The next bullish phase in emerging markets, once it bottoms, will be an aggressive phase. As in very very aggressive. During that time, many people will start the bullish rant and lofty projections. Use your tongue to count your teeth when everyone on your street, church, school, market start investing.
