Most Nigerian Employment Agencies Are Rogues! by joseph1832(m): 7:52am On Dec 17, 2012 |
It is no news that unemployment in Nigeria is fast becoming a trait associated with bad governance. Arguable, the vast majority of Nigerian youth are unemployed! With this growing trait one would expect the Federal Government to act by quelling the scorch of unemployment, they come up with all kinds of rhetorics and say that Nigerians should not depend on them (the FG) in lieu, Nigerians should be self employed, and they site examples like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg and the likes who became self employed and end up being wealthy men. They the FG forget that Zuckerberg and Gates have an enabling environment for them to be self employed, light is there, they have stable power supply, good roads etc, Things the FG have so far shied away from. To make matters worse, many Nigerians have also decided to add to the plight of their fellow Nigerians, this can be attributed to the way many of these so called employment agencies exploit Nigerians who came to them for assistance in acquiring a job. While its fair for them to charge a small fee as a token for their assistance, many of these employment agencies have grown avaricious, they charge exorbitant fees and use all sorts of gimmicks to exploit people. Some of them will tell you that when they find a job for you, you are to remit 35 or 40% of your monthly salary to them not just for the first or second month, but for the entire time you keep the job they provided for you. Others go as far as telling you to pay N10,000 or N20,000 in a bank before they will even answer you, some will tell you 50% of your monthly salary belongs to them for one year that is after registering with them for N5000. While others will ask you to pay a certain amount (non refundable), after payment they prove to you that "Cristiano Ronaldo, is not the only one who knows how to dribble". Every employment agency has its own unique style of 'milking' the unemployed, they are using the current employment situation to enrich themselves and no body is doing or saying anything about it, To my utter amazement, Nigerians troop to them in hundreds for assistance never minding the fact that they are involving themselves in another form of slavery. Is this how far we've fallen?!. |
