NRI PRIEST: For me it is visiting aged relatives and listenning to them talk about ancient Igbo land(oge gboo)....I miss my grandmother who always tell me stories of how life was in the early 1900 century. About great ppl who lived and what made our town tick. How I wish I can bring back the ancient Igboland with all her traditions. For the ones in bold. Who said you can't? First, give out or destroy every of ur modern day possessions, demolish ur cement house and replace it wt mud or thatch, start walking about in ur adamic cloth (unclad), etc, others will join you. GOOD LUCK! 1 Like |

Everything about my hometown appeals me. It's my root and I MUST identify with it, in and out of season. Every visit to my hometown reminds me that I need to work harder to make a visible impact that would transform lives for the better in my ancestral home and beyond. For those of you who see no reason for going home, I wouldn't advice you to do otherwise but bear in mind that the city isn't your root. One day, your children would ask you where their root is. Always strive to make your root better than you met it. OneLove! 1 Like |

visiting the village is always fun but these days evil men dey too much. A lot of promising young men have been cut down in their prime because of one jealous relative or the other. A lot of young people are too scared to go back home these days for fear of evil men. |

--I can wake up and grab the nearest hanging gown and swing it over my head and go out without bathing, washing or pressing, and still blend in. --Local delicacies (which wil look unhygienic in the city) gulped without a damn. --Being updated with the latest village gists (the witch by the stream has claimed her 9th victim, mr so-so is rumored to be dating another man's wife, etc.) --From one end of the village to the other- 10 minute motorcycle ride. On the negative side: people that will be swarming your house for their own share of the "National Cake" |

Seeing some of the comments above,I guess the trip is worth it. I've always wondered why people subject themselves to so much stress;bad roads, hold ups, exorbitant fares etc. |

the palm wine fresh from the yard, fresh cashew fruits at this time of the year, everything is fresh(oha, onugbu, akwu, bushmeat and tilapia fish). And more importantly, the near zero polution level. And if you have my kind of eyes, you will always spot the fresh virgin punnies in the villa. |

1. I do enjoy drinking water from the clay pots in some households in the village. 2. I enjoy Oil bean (Ugba) gathering. This practice is almost dead now because of development. It's a pity most Ugba trees have given way for electric poles and other developments. I enjoy Igba Okii (thatch making). Again, most of those houses which I reroof with the thach I make are gone. I don't know if this is good or bad. I enjoy cutting grasses and leaves and palm fronds for domestic animals. I enjoy drinking locally made anti malaria herb drinks popularly called Ogwu Iba. I enjoy making baskets with palm fronds as well as brooms for house sweeeping. I also enjoy going to the bushes to gather mushrooms popularly called Ero. But those bushes are groing thin daily because of urbanisation. I also enjoy making bird cages with palm fronds. But those birds that are attracted by the maize grown around my village have disappeared for ages. |
