Apparently some suspected thieves are more innocent than the other or how else can one rationalize the craze for dispensing jungle justice on ‘petty’ thieves while those alleged and known to have looted the public till still walk freely on the streets like peacocks?

Friday would mark an unfortunate day for a man suspected to be a motorcyclist thief, when he was set ablaze by angry youths at a workers’ village, along Kilema Doma road in Lafia, Nasarawa State, while allegedly trying to snatch a motorcycle, popularly called okada in the are

The unfortunate incident which was confirmed by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer (DPPRO), Nasarawa State command, Mr Cornelius Ocholi, revealed that the victim was set ablaze by a local vigilante group in the area while his accomplices escaped.

He explained that before his men got to the scene, the deed had already been done even as “effort made by the police to get the names of the accomplice proved abortive as nobody could be found at the scene of the event, where the suspected thief was set ablaze.” He however cofirmed that seven persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Different eye witness, accounts say angry youths, who arrested the suspect, told him to take some of them to the scene of the incident, where he was beaten and set ablaze, while another claimed that the suspected thief died while receiving medical attention at Araf Dalhatu Specialist Hospital, Lafia.

However, the Nasarawa State Police Commissioner, Mr Abayomi Akaremale, has warned members of the public to desist from taking laws into their hands as according to him, what the mob did was unlawful, adding instead of setting the suspect ablaze, they should have reported the matter to police.

This is a shame to the justice system. Nigerians have lost faith in the Justice system so street justice prevails with error of highest order. I suggest the UK Government come and set up annex courts in Nigeria (sarcasm).

Most crimes committed by community should attributed to the fail govt we have in this country. Govt has the responsibily of promt action anytim anyday how can police not act fast in any incident. Wat I read Always is the deed has been done before then got there. Plz should strt hold the dpo responsible for any lapses on their part. This act of jungle justice should be totally condemm.

Truly, tђє way we go about it whenever a suspected or even a confirmed robber or even armed robber ıs killed now makes me to believe that indirectly, people are calling for the legalization this crime. I wonder wђy people now consider tђє fate of robbers more than that of their victims. Last friday, an armed was killed aηϑ burnt in ♏v̶̲̥̅ area, aηϑ some1 was lamenting that its not fair, that tђє robber was born of a woman aηϑ shouldn't deserve such treatment. I looked at tђiƨ̣̇̇ idiot with scorn, cos tђє robber in question ıs tђє only unfortunate member of a 6-man gang tђα̲̅t robbed a woman of millions of naira, shot tђє shot to death, killed a policeman tђα̲̅t rushed to scene aηϑ also a woman tђα̲̅t I could not ascertain now whether she ıs dead or not. Tђє rest escaped aηϑ luck ran out of tђiƨ̣̇̇ guy, he was burnt immediately, maybe yσυ guys should suggest to me tђє best treatment that would have been given to tђiƨ̣̇̇ guy ƨ̣̇̇ø as not be guilty of jungle justice...its high time we started concluding plans to march to the National Assembly ƨ̣̇̇ø that armed robbery should be legalized ƨ̣̇̇ø as to save more robbers tђє chances if facing a jungle justice.
