The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) on Sunday condemned the appointment of former Work Minister, Tony Anenih, as the chairman of the board of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA).

In a statement signed by its spokesman, Osita Okechukwu, the Conference said Mr Anenih’s appointment was “an insult to Nigerians and endorsement of corruption.”

The statement also said “whereas, President Goodluck Jonathan GCFR, has the powers by the virtue of the powers conferred on him by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to delegate or appointment anybody to office; however we view the appointment of Chief Anthony Anenih to chair the Board of Directors of the Nigeria Ports Authority {NPA} as an insult to Nigerians and utter endorsement of corruption.”
The CNPP said the Ports Authority had been infested in “endemic corruption,” since the days of two PDP leaders- Bamaga Tukur and Bode George- as its head.

“Recently the House of Representatives accused the NPA of diverting N160 billion of revenue supposed to be remitted to the Federation Account, in accordance with Section 162 of the Constitution,” the CNPP said.

“For the endemic corruption in NPA, we are alarmed that President Jonathan instead of nominating a credible, transparent and maritime professional to clean the Augean Stable in the rotten Nigeria Port Authority; has wittingly insulted the intelligence of Nigerians by appointing Chief Anenih whose notoriety in public office is legendary,” Mr Okechukwu said.

The CNPP said Mr Anenih failed woefully as Minister of Works.

“We are yet to locate any of the federal roads awarded with billions by Chief Anenih as Minister of Works from 1999 which was completed in the more than three years he held sway in the ministry.

“In fact, Agege-Ota-Abeokuta, Owerri-Onitsha, Ilorin-Ibadan, Gombe-Maiduguri, Kano-Maiduguri, Lagos-Ibadan, Lagos-Benin etc, are still uncompleted, despite the unprecedented oil revenue which governed the budget process, an unfortunate foundation laid by the Chief,” the group stated.

The groups cast aspersions on President Jonathan’s credibility saying, “We had thought that President Jonathan will be making strenuous efforts to erase the epitaph of graduating into the most corrupt regime in the annals of Nigerian history by distancing himself from less than transparent characters like Chief Anenih”.

“In sum, it is our candid view that a true Transformation Agenda must be anchored on the beacon of transparency, accountability and public good; not on self – preservation and endorsement of corruption,” Mr Okechukwu said.

CNPP if you feel insulted by Jonathan‘s ‘insult‘ head to the courts.
Rather still present ur evidence against Anenih to the courts to quash his appointment. Silly press release/conference wont do.
Finally I dont know what to call you but I will settle for ‘noise makers‘ for now.

I honestly stand by CNPP! To think and believe that this same government who go about parading themselves to the whole world that they are fighting corruption and yet they still went ahead to appoint an individual whose integrity, accountability and credibility is no better than that of a common prostitute.

GEJ is revealing his true colours to Nigerians bit by bit! He's showing everybody that him and his party don't give a damn about the opinion and well being of Nigerians.

What is the legal retirement age in Nigeria ? My instinct tells me its 65. I know this appointment has little to do with public service codes but truth is, I am disappointed in an appointment of 70plus years old man to man our NPA. This is a bad choice, except I am educated on this, I maintain that I am very disappointed in this appointment. I can do better than Anenih on that position.

GEJ is desperate to stay in power after 2015. He feels he needs to please Annenih with juicy posts to have his support for the 2015 election. Expect to receive more "insults" to achieve this ambition in 2015.

RCCG annointing is working...

GEJ attended RCCG annual ritual gathering, got his annointing renewed and came back to appoint Anenih as NPA Chairman. Interesting.

CNPP is a pressure group and therefore can speak the minds of people especially their followers who are Nigerians - all political parties apart from the evil PDP.

Of course you can go ahead and speak your own opinion and tell us how your live will be better with the appointment of "Mr Money Approved is not Money Released".

Isn't it funny how the Jonathanians on this forum have expertly avoided addressing the ISSUE at hand (namely, the shameful, wicked, diabolical appointment of a reviled, corruption-tainted shameless old man to one of the most sensitive positions in the land) and have instead resorted to name-calling in a vain attempt to distract the rest of us from the core issue being discussed?

My challenge to every Jonathan supporter on this forum, as well as all those who "voted for Jonathan but not the PDP" is to show the rest of us, in plain, unambiguous terms, how EXACTLY this appointment fits in with the president's "transformation agenda" or his supposed "war against corruption". Show us Anenih's track record as well as his achievements in public service or private enterprise that qualify him for this appointment. In fact, prove to us that this appointment is not just another example of the crass patronage, "jobs-for-the-boys" system that has been the hallmark of this killer party called the PDP.

I'm waiting.

What concerns you is the age? Good! But what should concern us is whether the man integrity or not. What is the average age of the people chairing the board of big companies? How many of them are in their forties?
