Even if the landlord didn't ask for that, it is alright if he wants to stay with people of like faith. A good Muslim and a good Christian can't stay together without a few problems. What if he decides to say his daily prayers in the room always? What if the Christian decides to hold vigil in the every Friday for instance? When Ramadan comes, and the Christian cooks fine meals, don't you think it'll be challenging? When people from the Christian's fellowship come for visitation and prayers, won't he find that disturbing? What is the point of staying outside the hostel when the disadvantages of staying in the hostel are still there?
My guy, nothing do you. You have every right to prefer staying with a Muslim even if the landlord doesn't care.

In 100level, ur schedule is usually tight and you don't know the way systems work both on and off campus. It'll be better to stay on campus for the 1st year and adapt to ur dept's way of doing things. During that period, you may get to know people staying off campus who may be graduating that year. You ask them about the house(how the landlord/caretaker treats them, water etc) and about the area(can you easily get bikes early in the morning when you are late? do thieves worry them when they're around or during break? whether you can walk late at night? etc). After you've done your homework well in 100lvl, you can then move off campus.
Everybody i know that stayed off campus in 100lvl didn't find it very comfortable.

3. Now, you don't know me and i don't know you so don't say I'm "dumb". Also it's ok to tell me to shut up, but don't say I'm saying "crap". I'm very sure I've seen more of life than you have and can draw from personal experiences and situations I've also witnessed when stating my opinions on issues. I understand people can disagree with my stand, but I'll like them to do that politely.
