ASUU has no blame for this prolong strike; we should rather put the blame on the Federal Government for not being sincere and for turning deaf ears to the demands of our intellectuals. Could it be that ASUU is selfish? If I were in members' of ASUU situation, I would have also asked for a good working condition; after all, they have families to take care of. The beauty of working is to work under a satisfactory working condition. Besides, workers in US, UK, Botswana, Mauritius, Sychelles etc work under a highly satisfactory environments than what we experience here. It is the responsibility of GOVT to adress the demand of aggrieved workers but our own Govt is exhibiting a nonchalant attitude to workers demand. What happens to the students? It's quite unfortunate that students are being deprived of their right to quality and sound education in Nigeria. FG is supposed to be held responsible for this; because if there's effective and efficient control of workers by GOVT, there wouldn't have been any strike at all (this implies that even if the workers' demands are excessive there would have been a law that would stop them from doing that). Furthermore, this so called Govt has been saying that most graduates here are unemployable; yet the Govt is not ready to address the issue. From the foregoing, it can be said that the Govt is guilty of all these wrongs just as it refuses to provide job opportunities for classes of graduates. I'm just hoping that one day; our Govt will wake up, listen and obey public opinion. |
