Does web development really worth it? It take years to be proficient in web development/design, even software development. And for someone diving into this from another field other than computer science might have issue with employment because most of the ICT firms require a degree in computer science and reasonable years of working experience. For a graduate like me who wants to learn a skill that won't take a long time to master. Is there any hope or any other suggestion from you is welcomed.
Thank you.
Most software companies don't care about your certificate any more. They only care about what you know and how you can add values to the company. Though you *may* have a better chance if you studied an engineering/science related course, I *think* with that they believe you should have a good *problem solving* skill which is one important aspect of software development. How long it takes before getting proficient actually depends on how ready you are and how passionate you are about this whole thing. There are many resources you can get online, it now depends on how you use your time. I'm a web developer and I didn't study computer science.

From what I know now, Start with Python, then C++ and the move to JavaScript... Big companies will be running after you in no time.
Why c++ before JavaScript for a beginner ?

I started learning programming from 2012, but due to some factors I abandoned it. I want to start afresh and I have some questions to ask
1. I plan on using Ubuntu os, since I was told that it is great for programmer, how true is that.
2. if question one answer is yes, what are the alternative program to download on Ubuntu. like eclipse, netbeans e.t.c alternative.
3.which compiler alternative does it have
my bosses in the house, I am looking forward to your reply

How will you advise a beginner to start with C++? Python is good to start with after which you go into Javascript..

This is the best advice:

Start with easy languages, don't be ashamed you can begin with even VB or Basic to be familiar with programming and it's syntax.
Start off with simple languages like HTML/CSS for website development. Install HTML kit IDE and bootstrap.
Start with C, or C++, Java, C# for software development, install Visual Studio, and Netbeans IDE.
Get a very good book.
Get a course instructor.
Take courses on a particular language.
Join development communities on telegram, GitHub, stackoverflow, and read articles on sites like code project.
Practice, Practice, Practice!!!
You must be determined, and passionate about it to go further.
Make sure you learn the basics, and make use of frameworks.
