Ajibade105: Actually, I wasn't so much abt the question, just to tell him the "how". It was a non verified question, don't mind me Even... limx---2 (x^2 -4/2) = limx-- 2 [(x-2)(x+2)/x ]= 0/2 = 0 Even the best of us make mistakes. Thanks bro! |

Please, I need a solution to this question asap. Given that xCosA + ySinA = 8, xCosA - ySinA= 6. Show that x squared + y squared = 100. I have solved but not reached any headway... Thanks a lot... Cc Mechanics Lordbeans |

Tpappie: wrong question. |
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 11:54am On Aug 25, 2018 |
lordbeans: Please can you explain why it is wrong? |
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by lordbeans(m): 12:56pm On Aug 25, 2018 |
Tpappie: Squaring both sides of the equation gives x2cos 2A + y2sin2A + 2xycosAsinA =64......(1) x2cos 2A + y2sin2A - 2xycosAsinA =36......(2) Add (1)+(2), gives 2x2cos 2A+2y2sin2A=100......(3), hence the only way x2+y2=100, is if cos 2A=1/2 and sin2A= 1/2; which only occurs when A=pi/4. so I think I should have said that the question is only true when A=pi/4. |
Re: Nairaland Mathematics Clinic by Nobody: 1:39pm On Aug 25, 2018 |
lordbeans: That was exactly my problem. Someone gave me to solve and I just got stuck there. I even tried using compound angle formula, it didn't work. I tried solving simultaneously, I got xCosA as 7 and ySinA as 1. Thanks a lot though |
