Starblack M: Nice story line at least for those who enjoy driving a long distance. But the consumption of fuel is quiet high. Below is the fueleconomy mpg of 505 V6 and other 505 models: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/bymake/Peugeot1987.shtml From the link, you could see that mpg between the 505 V6 and other 505 I4 are almost the same. The difference isnt that much. According to UK Autocar Road Test of 505 V6 5sp manual, in 1987, the car averaged 24.2mpg with a mixed driving (city & highway) after the test. And they stated that a full tank of the car ( 70 litres) should give over 300 miles. Remember, mine covered 336 miles on the same 70 litres. Note that the test car had no A/C, while mine have and the A/C was on and still averaged 21.8mpg, even with the traffic jam. Ikenna. |

Jucol: Wow! Impressive road trip. I was counting the number of pictures you took. I somehow lost count around 39 . Back then in 1998/99 I had one of those Peugoet 505 SR cars. I always enjoyed the to and fro Lagos - Calabar trips. The warning light on the instrument cluster is the coolant level radiator sensor. The sensor has been acting up lately. But i always manualy check to be sure the coolant level in the radiator is ok. Ikenna. |

Cyberknight: Timing belt? Am anxious to know what model of 505 it was. Was it a GTI? Because i do know that the engine in 505 PAN production, XN1 & XN1A, didnt have a timing belt, but a double timing chain. But the 505 GTI, which had only ZDJL engine (EFI), had timing belt instead. PAN never produced GTI. GTI was produced and sold in Europe, Australia and few Asian countries, like Indonesea. So if yours was the ZDJL engine, the timing belt will break like everyother timing belt of other brands, if not replaced when due. Of course, Nigerians only replace their timing belt, water pump & tensioners only when they fail. Most will even replace only the belt when it breaks, just like you did, without bothering to replace the water pump and tensioners as well, which will make the belt again to break soon. But then, when the timing belt breaks on you, it may cost your valves as well, if care is not taken, the entire engine. The timing Chains in the 505 with XN1 engine dont just snap or break like timing belts. They will be giving you sign with noisy rattling sound. Most times, its been caused by improper lubrication ( bad oil). It will snap if ignored for a long time. But i dont see anyone leaving it that way, since the rattling sound can be very disturbing. I dont know about other cars with timing chains, but i do know the one in 505 will be embarrassing you with its noise if you refuse to attend to it. But of course, it will surely get weak over time. But we are looking at 100 thousands of kms here. Ikenna. 1 Like |

This picture, below, of my 505 V6 engine bay was taken this morning. As you can see in the picture, the engine now have brand new A/C compressor and Universal Cone Race Air Filter. Those familiar with K&N cone Air Filter will understand. So, you can now understand where the more power was coming from and why i was catching my fun. Ikenna.

gmyguy: Clean engine, but your battery terminals have been removed Yes, i removed the battery terminals since the 31/12/2012 i came back from the trip. The vehicle's Licence expired on that day, which was why i had to come back that same day from the East. Unfortunatly, I will have to change the number plates too, to the new one, while renewing the vehicle Licence, which i was told will cost me 30k. So, i have been using my 2nd car, the 605 V6 since then, pending when i renew the 505 Licence and change the number plates, soon. Ikenna. 1 Like |

yungboss: thought as much that the air ffilter wasnt stock, wanted to ask if it was K & N...what difference does it make, i.e, does it make a difference in horse power? A lot! The filter is design for race. The brand of mine is Spectre, not K&N. It automatically changed the engine note. The V6 song is now sweet to listen to. Ikenna. 1 Like |

Ikenna351: Cliche...very interesting read. I'm a fan of V6 engine thats why I advice anyone who wants to listen, 'if you want the real deal as far as V6 and tuning is concerned stick with the Europeans (France-Peugeot/Citron or Germany-Audi/VW/Benz) the japs are trailing behind |

gmyguy: may be he was pulling a bird out of the front grill...the vw golf tdi probably, good performance, would smoke the 505 anyday anytime....and my vw jetta too Get serious man, no way in hell will a jetta smoke a Peugeot 505 with a V6 engine. I have owned a Jetta executive car previously, i know its capabilities. Can't say much about the Golf GTI though, never driven one. |

Hello ikenna, sorry for derailing your thread, sort of.please could you help me on this? I did an OBD scan on an 07 accord I just bought so I could be aware of any fault to enable me service before use. The scan came out with these codes: 1.P2185... Engine coolant temp.sensor2 circuit high 2.P0141...02sensor heater circuit malfunction bank1 sensor2. 3.P0457...evaporative emission system leak detected(fuel cap loose/off). It was observed that the fuel consumption was unusually high. Please are these serious problems? Can the normal roadside mechanics fix these? I don't really know about cars as this would be my first, and I don't want any mechanic to damage my car. Your input will be highly appreciated. Thanx. |

cmax1.6:i cant say for the technical jib-jabba, but from practical driving, the golf is just of a slight performance higher, i really doubt his 05 would stand either, besides, the 5 is an old car...i am talking about vw 96, 2.0 GLS, the turbo was one of the race cars used in Fast and Furious 2. abeg, which movie dem don use 505? 504 still show for James Bond...505 nko |

cmax1.6: The Peugeot 505 V6 is still a rare car, even in France. They don't come up for sale often. It's a true driver's car, if you're not a car enthusiast, you won't truly appreciate one. However, the Volkswagen Golf 2,8 VR6 will out-run the Peugeot 505 V6. It also has the edge in terms of maximum speed, though this is mostly due to its more aerodynamic advantage over the older Lion. Here are the stats for both cars: Peugeot 505 V6. WEIGHT: 1,475 kgs. ENGINE: Engine: 2,849cc V6 2 x SOHC 12V. Fuel system: EFI, non-sequential. Fuel type: Petrol. Induction: Naturally aspirated. Cylinder head: Light alloy. Cylinder block: Cast iron. TRANSMISSION 5-speed manual. Drive: RWD. PERFORMANCE Power: 170 bhp. Torque: 235 Nm. 0-60 mph: 9,3 secs. Maximum speed: 126 mph (203 km/h). Volkswagen Golf 2,8 VR6. WEIGHT: 1,283 kgs. ENGINE: Engine: 2,792cc V6 2 x SOHC 12V. Fuel system: EFI, sequential. Fuel type: Petrol. Induction: Naturally aspirated. Cylinder head: Light alloy. Cylinder block: Cast iron. TRANSMISSION 5-speed manual. Drive: FWD. PERFORMANCE Power: 174 bhp. Torque: 235 Nm. 0-60 mph: 7,5 secs. Maximum speed: 140 mph (225 km/h). The 505 is a great car - I've owned one, a LHD car, but it was an STI, so 2,0L 8V, which placed it below the GTI, which was a 2,2L 8V. With a 2,0 engine, it was far from quick, but it was immensely satisfying to drive. Very few people knew what it was! I still reckon the ultimate 505 will be one with a transplanted LS1 5,7 V8 motor. Now THAT will be something! |

And written in English. Please, read and take in. If you're not clear on something, by all means, ask. Rather than make sarcastic comments. 4 Likes |

Of course you were not there in those decades, so i wont blame you for not having a clue of how foolish your posts here sounded. Seriously, so you consider only vehicles that appear in movies as only powerful ones? Not difficult to tell who is still been breastfed. Ikenna. 4 Likes |
