Strange Silence About The 2.1 Billion Cash Stolen In Mint by Enegod(m): 5:05am On Jan 08, 2013 |
The Nigerians public has not heard anything about the 2.1 billion in 1,000 Naira notes that had been stolen at the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Corporation (NSPMC) around November of 2012 after the initial exposure of this shameful theft. The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who at that time in the news calling for the Federal Government to sack 50% of its staff to save money, however, is the chairman of the board of the (NSPMC), and the CBN governor who is known to be garrulous on any issue that catches his fancy, Boko Haram, Niger Delta militancy, Nigeria's federalism etc, has uncharacteristically remained mute about this monumental theft under his watch. It would be recalled that NaijaPundit reported that after the theft, Ehi Okomoyon, the chief executive of NSPMC was ordered to proceed on indefinite leave and replaced in acting capacity by one Ahmed Bamali. The same treatment was meted out to one Emmanuel Bala, who until he was asked to go on leave was head of security at the NSPMC. It was alleged that strangely there were no CCTVs in place at the NSPMC which contributed to the ease with which the funds disappeared. What has happened to the probe over the disappearance of the money or Sanusi and his board expecting the issue to die a natural death as with most issues in Nigeria? -naijapundit |
