aribisala0: When doctors make discoveries they take them to other doctors who ask a lotta questions just to be sure. They do not take their discoveries to Vanguard or ThisDay. That is the scientific way. Somehow I doubt that it would be a secret when a cure for HIV-AIDS is found No mind those conspiracy theorists. Once a cure is available, it will be published in reputable journals and subjected to intensive scrutiny. |

FOlks should realize is that there many agents in the market capable of bringing the virus down to undetectable levels (<40cell/ML), leading to the disappearance of opportunistic infections and concomitant increase in CD4. This will lead to dramatic improvement in the health of the individual, as I've personally witnessed on numerous occasions. The problem is that the virus has been found to 'hide' in what known as latent cells VERY EARLY IN INFECTION, and since our conventional ARVs only attack viruses that are actively replicating, these viruses are spared and can remain so for many years, even decades. Once however therapy is discontinued, and the latent cells are triggered through a process not completely understood, they begin replicating again. Therefore a cure should: 1.) Totally eradicate the virus from every reservoir in the body (known as sterilizing cure - not very promising). 2.) Prevent the latent cells from ever becoming active (functional cure - some progress in this regard) 3.) Force the latent cells to become active so they can be cleared by the conventional ARVs. 4.) Render CD4 cells immune from infection (Gene therapy) Note that a person became sero negative does not imply he has been cured. It only means the body is no longer producing antibodies to the virus, the presence of which rapid tests rely on. 3 Likes |

If the cure is about boosting one's immune level, sure it will work, but if it is about killing one's existing immune system like Anti-retrovirals do, I am sorry, it won't work. Just my two cents. https://www.nairaland.com/1156346/hiv-just-annoucement-aids-kill |

Benin –Prof. Isaiah Ibeh of the University of Benin, on Tuesday announced the development of a new drug that can allegedly ‘cure’ HIV and AIDS. Ibeh, who is the Dean of the School of Basic Medical Sciences of the university, told reporters in Benin that the herbal drug had undergone “series of successful tests”. He said “We are at the threshold of making history, in the sense that we seem to have with us something that will permanently take care of what over time seems to have defied all solutions. “We are talking about the latest discovery of an oral drug made from plants extraction in Nigeria for the possible cure of the pandemic, HIV and AIDS virus.’’ ........ AIDS is not a virus liar... |

Foreign countries will look for ways to discredit the project, because they prefer such drugs come from Pfizer etc. As a matter of fact, they have the cure all this while, but it makes more economic sense to sell anti-retroviral drugs that the patients have to use for the rest of their lives, than to peddle anything that gives permanent cure. |

No drug can kill viruses even influenza, rotavirus, hepatitis viruses.viruses live on host cells. So killing the viruses mean killing the host cells. Immune system can get rid of viruses including hiv viruses. The problem with hiv is mutation and viruses evade immune system. Key to hiv and other viruses cure are intracellular and extracellular killing of viruses, prevention of entry of viruses into cells or preventing viral multiplication as well as boosting of immune system. |

YuzedoII: This is either a half-truth, outright lie or long-awaited good news! WHO,FHI, USAID, GLOBALFUND, CDC,GHAIN, TSHIP..... The list is endless. These are the big dogs in the game of making sure that ARD is in circulation especially in Africa where the qualities of those drugs are questionable. Little is heard about the production of a reliable vaccine for the cure of HIV, but managing the infection with ARD is their main concern. No wonder they have earmarked billions of dollars to its production yearly. International bodies handling HIV, huuuh a tale of Hope, Deception, frustration, disappointment and .....? |
