I was speaking with a girl in a community in Aragba, in Ugheli North L.G.A. of Delta State of Nigeria who told me that unemployment is a situation whereby the resources of a Nation is not being utilized for the production of employment .The exact scenario happening in Nigeria. How true can this be?
That community is surrounded by rivers and their cash crops are cassava and plantain in a large quantity. Yet according to her, the youths are running away to seek for greener pastures elsewhere. It should be noted that everywhere in the developed world, Industries and Factories are built in areas were the raw materials are located. This could bring about even development throughout the Nation. But in Nigeria, all factories are located in the urban areas whereas the villages producing these raw materials are just ignored. Their goods are exported away from them to develop urban cities.
And the fact still remains that the Government is doing nothing to savage the situation. For example, in Benin a head of plantain is sold for #1,200 but at the village (Aragba) it is sold for #600.why cant we build the cassavita industries in the community were the products are relatively cheaper. This would enhance rural development and create employment.
