@all caring mom & nutritionist,
I don't really know how to explain this but I beg you all to try to comprehend my curiosity.
My daughter of 10 months has been feeding on SMA(gold,progress) since birth. Couple of months ago my wife decided to combine both Friso Gold(rice) with SMAprogress because she seems hungrier. But recently shes getting hungrier again to the extent that she normally finishes both within 5 days and she doesn't look content still.... Lol.
So someone recommended Nutriend to my wife, on getting to the s/ mart Nutriend cost #800 while Cerelac Nigeria cost1300 and the imported goes for 2000 . So I decided we go for the imported Cerelac (honey&wheat)because it cost more(meaning its better Abi?) with so many variants . Now my question is: is Cerelac really better than Nutriend? because both are products if the same company or just the imported hype? Also which baby milk is okay to mix the Cerelac with( though we are planning of using SMA progress for now and later switch to Peak 123). I will really appreciate you candid suggestion and recommendations.

Plz, don't mind my blunders.(I'm on mobile). Just a curious dad here....lol

You can't always tell when it comes to children's food, which is better. The best way to know which food is best for your kid is by trying the kid with the various foods till the kid is able to determine which they prefer. so you can try the various cerelac/ nutrend with you kid and I will be quick to add that just because the imported cerelac is more expensive doesn't make it the best. Also at 10 months old, the baby should already be introduced to more solid food than cerelac and nutrend. mashed potatoes, very soft boiled rice, beans and other such foods. please no salt should be added in the baby's food. I think your baby is consuming a tin of cerelac in less than five days because the food is not enough for her, introduce her to more solids. Thanks

The diff btw nutrend and cerelac is dt d latter is maize and milk dts d niaja own while d forma is maize and soya. D imported ones come in diff flavours like rice, wheat, banana etc, d foreign one is smoother, but then it depends on d child. My daughter is 9months but refuses baby foods, she eats Amala, Beans, Rice and whatever we eat in d house. When trying a particular food allow d child to adapt or reject b4 u introduce a new one, so give d child 3 to 5 days to see if she likes a particular food I wish u well caring dad.

Thanks Nat138 & Queendo, I really appreciate. I will inform my wife to try more solid food for her. Btw, why did u (nat) advices against salt in her food? What's the implication or health risk- if any? Thanks once again.
Re: Nutriend Vs Cerelac by tpia5: 9:11am On Jan 11, 2013
Personally, i prefer nutrend, but like someone said, watered down versions of adult foods are also ok.
Re: Nutriend Vs Cerelac by RichDad1(m): 1:40pm On Jan 11, 2013
Thanks @tpia. Someone suggested pealed beans(the one for moin-moin) with grinned cray fish. How good us that?
Re: Nutriend Vs Cerelac by elo500: 1:52pm On Jan 11, 2013
Peeled beans and crayfish is also good. My daughter is 9months old. From birth to six months she took NAN ONE, from 6months till date she takes NAN2, CUSTARD and KAROFY as well as whatever anyone's eating in d house (unless u want to eat it in d bathroom lol).
So I'll suggest u try the various foods on ur baby, though u have to be careful cos cerealac gave mine running stomach for a while. This would enable u know wat's best for ur baby. Good luck to u and luv to ur child.. smiley

Re: Nutriend Vs Cerelac by lond07: 5:20pm On Jan 11, 2013
As she grows so does her need to eat more. After six months, you need to start giving her solid foods in the like of smashed rice, fish. You can grind carrots and small quantity of banana. Ewedu stew is also good.

But make sure they are in a form she can swallow and digest easily
Re: Nutriend Vs Cerelac by MrCork17: 5:22pm On Jan 11, 2013

Re: Nutriend Vs Cerelac by vlove1: 5:24pm On Jan 11, 2013
Dear Dad,
cerelac or nutrend it really does not matter, the baby is 10mnths old, pls introduce her to proper meals like moimoi, ripe plantain, mashed potatoes, custard, garri, u name it one at a time. as for milk, continue with the sma progress or u switch to peak 123. include fruits and vegetables in the form of puree n watch her grow into a damsel.

I have a baby who is 14 months old.She feeds on SMA gold and Gerber,..and lately -Purity cereal and I believe from my experience that these cereals are good for baby's growth, mental development, and skin. I don't know much about Cerelac and Nutriend as I had never bought both simply because I don't like the brands. I hope you won't mind if I stay away a bit from ur question!!!
If your baby consumes heavily like my baby, I will suggest you mix SMA gold and Gerber- though they are expensive. Sometimes you can buy Purity which is a bit cheaper, but equally good. SMA costs about 2000 depending on where you are buying from, Gerber is 750, and Purity is 550. The only thing is that she can finish the 750 Gerber is less than 48 hours, and the SMA in 3-4 days, and the Purity in 2 days, so this is not a joke at all. As the breadwinner in the house, sometimes it's going to affect you, but you have no choice other than to give your child the best.
Some friends have told my wife that we should be looking at other cheaper foods, but we are not listening. My baby displays rare intelligence, started walking at 7 months, you will think she lives abroad because of her skin, I no longer have to stand up to pick TV remote, and lately she just wants nothing but her mum's Mac Pro.
I will pray that God continues to bless the guy that asked this question so that he can give the baby the best.

I have tried Amala and Potato, but my baby can't stand the sight of these foods let alone the taste. But she takes rice, and my housegirl told me last week that my baby finished a pack of idomie onion chicken at a go....I have not verified this, but she eats indomie too.

Lastly, just give ur baby whatever is best for, and never force her to eat any food because of affordability. God bless you

Re: Nutriend Vs Cerelac by Konnektions146(m): 6:30pm On Jan 11, 2013
personally i like cerealac cos its smoother and tastes better dan Nutrend but Nutrend but both are cereal based which contains fibre and protien.

as most people said, it all depends on the child. u could try soyabeans and ground crayfish as well, always try to grind to very fine texture for easy passage wen consumed.

good luckk and love to yur baby
Re: Nutriend Vs Cerelac by Nobody: 6:48pm On Jan 11, 2013
@poster
the difference between cerelac and nutrend is dat u dont add milk in the cerelac n it taste good, while u need to add (enuf) milk when making nutrend.
